Why did Wong break Abomination out of prison in She Hulk?

She-Hulk: The Lawyer’s Second Episode continued with Jen Walters’ new job as She-Hulk as she was recruited by a top lawyer to serve as the head of a superhuman department. However, Jessica was handed a lawsuit involving a client she was reluctant to take on: Emil Blonsky, aka Abomination, who witnessed his escape from prison to participate in a secret underground fight club.

Wong and Abomination in Underground Fight Club

Wong may have been the one who freed Abomination from prison, and his motives for doing so are still unknown. The only person who could break into Blonsky’s prison would have to be a wizard who could create dimensional gateways. As the last moments of Episode 2, She-Hulk: Lawyer at Law seems to take place in the same timeline as Shang-Chi, which would explain why Abomination is there throughout Wong’s battle with him.

But why? let’s find out!

Did Wong Help Abomination Escape

Emil Blonsky in jail

At the very end of the second episode of She-Hulk: Lawyer, the reporter said the supervillain was discovered in an underground fight club, battling a man who appeared to be Wong, the existing Sorcerer Supreme. The news source also said that Blonsky escaped from prison under unexplained circumstances. Is it safe to assume that Wong is the one who really freed him?

The duo were clearly pals throughout Shang-Chi’s actions, and they may have been plotting together the entire time as they kicked and punched each other. Blonsky hoped to start a new life after his time in prison, so it was plausible that they accomplished this so they could split the reward money. Emile Blonsky revealed to Jen Walters in the script that he had found seven kindred spirits through the Friends in Prison program. He added that his lifelong loves had already bought him a house for his release from prison.

Abomination

Wong may have been one of those “kindred spirits” he found. However, Wong needed financial stability to provide Blonsky with the education he deserved. Therefore, he may have used Abomination to help him gain riches in the underground fight club that resembled the Golden Daggers Club.

And because Emil Blonsky was incarcerated in a maximum-security facility, only Wong, with his portal-creating ring, could have helped him out of his cage without resorting to force or devastation. It’s likely that he used his portal ring to teleport Blonsky behind bars so the two could participate in the secret fight club.

Where does the Sorcerer Supreme take him

Wong and Abomination in Shang Chi

exactly where wong transports the super-serum-infused villain after their Shang-Chi battle is never revealed, and the location shown in the short scene is somewhat unremarkable. Still, given the available evidence and what’s been established about Abomination’s storyline and potential existence in the MCU, Raft seems like the more plausible choice.

It seems reasonable to place Abomination in the maximum security prison since it was built specifically for inmates with talents as well as other extraordinary skills. After his initial detention, Blonsky was sent to a SHIELD site in Alaska, where he was placed in a cryogenic cell. However, with SHIELD completely supplanted in Phase 4, it’s more appropriate for Blonsky to be moved somewhere, and like it or not, Raft seems like the safer alternative.

The raft

Following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the facility becomes the permanent residence of Baron Zemo, who also temporarily calls it home during the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Abomination’s presence in the prison could serve as the perfect backdrop for him to infiltrate the MCU’s Thunderbolts team, which Zemo should soon begin assembling.

Placing the Monstrosity in the Highly Secured Facility allows for simple connections to other players, such as the possibility of its connections to General Thaddeus Ross and Zemo, as it was responsible for placing members of the Captain’s team there. This bodes well for his future appearances in She-Hulk and beyond.

But it’s not entirely clear that Wong is carrying the Monstrosity to the Raft. He seems to have drastically changed his ways and is on good terms with Abomination, but it might be hard to let him out of jail so he can participate in secret fighting competitions like those held in Shang-Chi.
