Miguel Sapochnik
Right after the airing of two episodes for House of the Dragon, the co-showrunner of the show comes out. This series is taped to be the biggest premiere of the entire HBO network. The show has already been renewed for a second season as well. So why did the co-showrunner leave the show when it’s on its way to huge success?
Miguel Sapochnik leaves the show halfway
According Hollywood journalist, Miguel Sapochnik is leaving Ryan Condal’s side to run the series as co-showrunner. No reason has been reported for the same. According to available information, he just mentioned that he is tired of working for three years on this prequel of Game of thrones.
Even if he leaves the series, he will still be the executive producer of House of the Dragon. Apart from this, Sapochnik has also signed a deal with HBO for various new projects.
Currently, Condal will continue to direct the show, alongside co-creator George RR Martin, who wrote the book the story is based on. Alan Taylor, will now join the team of House of the Dragon as executive producer and director.
Sapochnik told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview that, “Working with the Thrones universe for the past few years has been a privilege and honor, especially spending the past two years with the incredible cast and crew of House of the Dragon.
“I’m so proud of the success of House of the Dragon Season 1 so far and I’m thrilled with the reaction from viewers. It was a very difficult decision for me to move on, but I think it’s the right choice for me, both professionally and personally. In doing so, however, I’m comfortable with the news that Alan will be joining the show. He’s the person I’ve known for a long time and I’m sure this precious show is in good hands. I’m always happy to be part of the HBO and House of the Dragon family. I also wish Ryan and his team huge success with Season 2 and all future episodes of this series,” he added.
Can Alan Taylor fill Miguel Sapochnik’s shoes?
Alan Taylor is not new to HBO, having directed seven episodes of Game of thrones. To remember his excellence, he directed the last two episodes of season 1, where we see the death of Ned Stark and the birth of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons.
Alan says in an interview at The Hollywood Reporter,
“I look forward to working closely with Ryan and the rest of the team as House of the Dragon is in the works for a second season. Ryan, George and Miguel have put together an amazing story, to allow viewers fans to return to Westeros once more. It will be a bigger undertaking, but I am up for the challenge.
According to Sapochnik’s statements, it seems that there is no rivalry or sentimental reason behind his departure. We, the fans, can only hope that this team change will not affect the effectiveness of the storyline and direction of House of the Dragon, just as it has happened for the last two seasons of Game of Thrones.
