We’ve now seen many Disney series released by Marvel that connect directly to its cinematic universe, except “What If…?”. After the release of Wanda Vision, Marvel fanatics speculated that Mephisto would soon be introduced in its final episodes.
This is because Darkhold was introduced in this series, its connection to hell is quite dynamic. And when Marvel talks about hell, Mephisto is the character that rules this place. In the comics, even Thor and Doctor Strange battled Mephisto and had a completely different story arc.
Therefore, fans also started anticipating Mephisto’s presence in MCU movies. To help you know why these expectations were set, you should know a brief overview of Mephisto’s character arc.
Mephisto character arc
Mephisto is an alien demon who is the ruler of a pocket dimension, which he names “Hell”. He possesses magical powers, immortality, intelligence and physical strength.
As for the comics, it is stated that Mephisto was the demon that captured the soul of Doctor Doom’s mother, namely Cynthia von Doom. Later, Doctor Strange helped Doctor Doom free his soul and prepare it for Heaven.
In another arc, Mephisto was jealous of the fire demon, Zarathos. Thus, Mephisto became the Satan and linked Zarathos to Johnny Blaze and created Ghost Rider. There are many more connections for Mephisto with the already existing MCU timeline.
And that’s why fans are waiting for its reveal in the main storyline. Wanda Vision involved sorcery all season, but didn’t feature the most evil wizard not once.
Fans are waiting for Mephisto
Fans have moved on with their expectations Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and all other series or films that have a relationship with magic or hell.
Out of the blues, She-Hulk episode 4 showed us a glimpse of hell, and also teased Donny Blaze, whose name sounds like Johnny Blaze, the Ghost Rider created by Mephisto.
It’s just a possibility that the hell we saw in She-Hulk episode 4 is the pocket dimension of Mephisto, or could be the limbo of Belasco, another alien demon. Most of the Easter Eggs connect to Mephisto, while Marvel’s Limbo also looks exactly like he was portrayed in the episode.
But all that teasing is for naught until we see Mephisto in action. This character can have a big impact on the entire MCU timeline, as the multiverse has also been introduced.
Why is Marvel depriving Mephisto of all its recent projects?
Marvel knows it has to introduce Mephisto at some point, as sorcery and sorcery are now at the center of the MCU’s timeline. We still haven’t seen the true potential of Doctor Strange, which we saw in What if…? Season 1.
Marvel is probably saving Doctor Strange’s true power to have him fight Mephisto. It’s possible Marvel could bring Mephisto to the next Doctor Strange movie or the Disney series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Cross your fingers and don’t expect much from the Mephisto Easter Eggs in the remaining episodes of She-Hulk. That’s because we don’t really know what the She-Hulk series is actually about. So literally expecting him to set the stage for Mephisto is like aiming blind.
