Early life and family

Kye Kelley II was born on May 18, 1985 in Magnolia, Mississippi, USA to Kye Kelley I and Tammy Kelley. Kye has a sister named Lacy Howell, whom he grew up with on the family farm in Magnolia, where his mother taught him how to hunt and fish. He even credits his mother for her charitable nature, saying she would do anything to help the family and keep them healthy.

Kye first developed an interest in cars around the age of 14. A local man named Otis held regular Sunday meetings, consisting of 50-60 people, and were a chance to socialize, cook and, most importantly, drag race.

Hoping to eventually buy his own car to race, Kye took on several jobs to fund his dream, working at the local grocery store and milking cows on a nearby farm.

Education

Kye attended South Pike Senior High in Magnolia and was a conscientious and intelligent student, thus enrolling on a partial scholarship at Junior College. However, Kelley did not come from a wealthy family and could not afford to complete his education. He was forced to immediately enter the labor market, which dealt a severe blow to his confidence. Kelley shares that his later fame and success in “Street Outlaws” was even more important to him, as he had believed he was destined for a life of obscurity.

Career

Petroleum refinement

After being forced to drop out of college, Kye entered the petroleum refining industry, starting at the lowest rungs as a fire watcher. This role was incredibly unsatisfying, consisting of sitting for hours on end, watching for potential fires while welding was in progress. Kye told Dragzine it “makes you feel like the most useless person ever.”

Kelley was determined to find satisfaction and success in his career and devoted the next ten years to working his way up. He eventually rose to the top of the chain, earning the title of superintendent and managing 250 other workers, but despite his success in the industry, Kye was always drawn to the streets, regularly meeting friends for grudge errands.

Racing career

The car

When Kye got serious about his racing habits, he realized the time was right to upgrade his vehicle. After purchasing a third-generation 1984 Chevrolet Camaro, he worked tirelessly to completely revamp the car, upgrading and replacing virtually every component. The result is known as The Shocker and is complete with a state-of-the-art engine, steerable wheels and optical shield windows.

Early career

For years, Kye had run around the infamous New Orleans locale known as Da’ Pad. Along with gaining expertise in car building, Kye also rose to fame in the neighborhood as the fastest runner in New Orleans, which was just what Kelley needed to launch his career.

Justin Shearer, a prominent cast member of “Street Outlaws”, arrived in Da Pad to recruit the best runner in the area, and was immediately directed to Kye, and Kelley’s life took a momentous turn.

“Outlaw of the Street”

“Street Outlaws is produced for the Discovery Channel by Pilgrim Studios, which has also produced popular titles such as ‘My Big Fat Fabulous Life’ and ‘The Runner’. Street Outlaws” documents the drama of drag racing on the streets of Oklahoma City and premiered on June 10, 2013, later spawning multiple spinoffs in Memphis and New Orleans.

Kye Kelley in “Street Outlaws”

When he was recruited by Justin Shearer, Kye was given the opportunity to race the show’s star, Daddy Dave, on his home turf.

Although he narrowly lost the initial race, he was invited to participate in a huge street racing event in Texas during the show’s fourth season, episodes nine and ten, which aired on February 23, 2015. Kye’s entry was an incredible success, as he ultimately beat dad Dave along with several other cast members, walking away with the grand prize of $16,000. This led to a string of hits, one at Da Pad where he won $6,000 and another in Oklahoma City where he won another $16,000.

Kye became a series regular during season seven, but only appeared for nine episodes before his tenure ended. Although his participation was short-lived, he was able to participate in events that he never could, because of the show.

One was his 2015 run against 14-time world champion Mike Murilla. By all appearances, Kye had won the race by three car lengths, but it was ultimately determined that Kye had started due to his adrenaline. He confessed his fault in a good mood, but maintains that he would have won the race anyway.

Business career

After losing his salary from “Street Outlaws”, Kye knew he had to create a new business opportunity. After taking out a bank loan, he opened a show business. His friend Greg Champagne joined the company and Down South Performance in McComb Mississippi was launched. The workshop became well known for its skill and the quality of its work, but closed in 2018.

Kye then launched Kye Kelly Racing, a merchandise store that capitalized on his success and fame. It’s run by him and his girlfriend, a fellow dragster, and features a variety of designer clothes and gear. He also makes frequent appearances at racetracks, spreading his love of street racing.

Private life

Relationships

Kye met Alisa Mote while looking for a car. Although their professions are very different – he a dragster and she a nurse – the two quickly developed a romantic relationship. They got engaged on May 21, 2014 and married over a year later in August 2015. Almost exactly two years after their engagement, Alisa gave birth to a daughter they named Kenaleigh Alexa Kelley.

She was Kye’s second daughter, but the identity of her first daughter and her mother remains unknown. Unfortunately, Kye and Alisa’s marriage took a turn for the worse and they divorced in 2017.

Since her divorce, Kye has been dating another drag star named Lisa Musi. Lisa comes from a family of drag racers, started in her family business at the age of eight, and was already competing in Junior Drag at the age of sixteen, and is therefore a very accomplished pilot. She and Kye have no children, but they share a French bulldog named Biggie.

New car

Everything about Kye’s new car is of the highest quality. Although it is also a Camaro, it can still exceed its current drive.

Dubbed “The Show Stopper”, the new vehicle was fitted with six Nitrous kits – four more than the original Shocker; he partnered with Jordan from Jordan Carriers, which allowed him to make his dream a huge success.

Appearance

Kye has an extremely friendly face and is almost always smiling. He has dark brown hair and eyes and wears a short beard. He is tall and well-built, though he is usually depicted in his vehicles. He is 1.75m (5ft 9in) tall and weighs around 200lbs (over 90kg).

Net Worth and Salary

Due to no longer appearing on “Street Outlaws”, Kye relies on the fame he gained during this time to earn a living. Kye has an online store and also gets paid to make appearances in various races. He has an estimated net worth of over $800,000, as of mid-2020.
