Princess Rhaenyra and Si Ciston Cole
In Episode 4 of The House of the Dragonwe see Princess Rhaenyra putting on street clothes and leaving the palace to go explore the city with her uncle Daemon, blend in with the population and, hold on tight, visit a brothel.
After staring at each other’s private parts for a while, the duo started to feel it. They don’t get very far, however, and upon Rhaenyra’s arrival in the bedroom, she plays and then has sex with her trusty Ser Criston.
Wait for the real one? Hmm!!
Rhaenrya explored the city a bit too much
Rhaenyra slipped out of her room through a hidden passageway and past Ser Criston Cole, who stood guard outside. The hidden entrance had been shown to him by Daemon. He planned to show her a side of life she had never seen before. It immersed Rhaenyra in the everyday lives of ordinary people, allowing her to personally experience prejudice. She saw a performance that said Viserys and Alicent’s child, Aegon II, was better qualified to rule than their own. The idea of a female leader was still not acceptable to most people.
They saw her as a helpless and inept woman. It was clear to Rhaenyra that she had a lot more potential than the average heiress claimed. The others around him, however, did not recognize him. The blinders of sexism were over their hearts and they weren’t yet ready to embrace radical change.
Then we see Daemon take his niece to a brothel. Satisfying their desires, the two enjoy a passionate embrace that goes far beyond the typical dynamic of an uncle-niece relationship. They begin to undress, Daemon leading Rhaenyra to a corner then spinning her as she undresses.
Daemon, meanwhile, begins to find the encounter uncomfortable, so Rhaenyra backtracks and pursues him. Daemon, however, had an internal break. In the middle of it all, he stopped. He was well aware that their actions would tarnish her reputation to the point that no other prince would wish to woo her.
It looks like Rhaenyra and Daemon are fondling each other passionately, which is a sign that neither of them is willing to do what is necessary to secure the throne. Everyone is satisfied with their desires. Very little credit is given to Daemon, the fact that he thought about Rhaenyra’s reputation convinces the audience that behind his Rogue Prince attitude he still cares about his family and their reputation.
Criston Cole and Rhaenyra finally made it
Before he was married, he was looked down upon for engaging in sexual activity with anyone other than his spouse. Moreover, their family ties prohibited them from doing so, despite some historical examples to the contrary. Daemon had had enough and walked away. Ser Criston Cole was surprised when Rhaenyra didn’t come out of her room after going to see her. Rhaenyra summoned Criston Cole inside.
The future queen had no constraints. She had a propensity to indulge her own impulses. At the beginning, Criston Cole was reluctant to do what Rhaenyra demanded as it went against the defined rules of her position. The fact that they nevertheless gave in to their sexual urges shows how much they value morality.
Criston had already made it clear that he and his family owed everything to Rhaenyra. When she put her name in the White Paper, she changed the course of Cole’s family history. And here she is, putting that distinction in jeopardy.
Criston’s inner voice reads like a prolonged guttural roar as he first fights against following instructions, then gives in, then fights again and finally gives in, laying down his armor and tenderly picking up his princess . This passionate embrace stands in stark contrast to Viserys and Alicent’s emotionless loyalty.
