The filming of Damien Chazelle’s next big project is over, and it’s got your friendly neighborhood actor Tobey Maguire in it! Babylon is Chazelle’s epic period film, paying an ode to a revolutionary era in Hollywood when he moved from the silent films of, say, Charlie Chaplin, to the diametrically opposed sound films, i.e. the talkies- walkies in the 1920s.
The last film Chazelle worked on was the Ryan Gosling directed biopic titled first man, aa mostly silent movie This time around, Chazelle plans to step up a gear in the “volume of a movie” area with Babylon, and it has a stellar cast that will also have Tobey Maguire, the face of Sam Raimi Spider Man trilogy.

The trailer for Babylon gives us an exciting glimpse of what the film will be like as it shows us a fictionalized depiction of Hollywood’s transition to sound films.
From what we can gather after seeing the trailer, it looks like Chazelle’s characters won’t always be smiling throughout the movie, just like in her previous works. Here’s a preview of the trailer-

As we can see, there is a lot of substance use in the film. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Chazelle gave her thoughts on life in those days for movie industry homies and how much drugs they were all doing.
“It was about capturing the spirit of that era, which was much more Wild West. They’re building a city and an industry from the ground up, and to do that you need a certain type of crazy person. I don’t think it’s surprising that the people who did this did a lot of drugs and partied a lot.
Filming for the movie wrapped around October of last year, and we can only think how crazy it must have been to film all that cocaine-snorting party we saw in the trailer.

Brilliant trailer, but fans were hoping to see more Tobey Maguire
Tobey Maguire is one of the many reasons people showed an interest in Damien Chazelle Babylon. And why not, the actor is who people, who saw one of the first hits Spider Man movies in theaters, remember as Peter Parker (not to belittle Tom Holland’s firm grip on the character).

We would all love to see more of Tobey Maguire in the movie, whose character is called James McKay. His last popular appearance dates back to Spider-Man: No Coming Home, but fans want more.
Babylon is slated for a limited theatrical release on December 25, 2022, after which it plans to expand its audience with another theatrical release on January 6, 2023.
