Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah has revealed when production on the next film will begin.
Last year it was revealed that a new Captain America the film was in development. Director Julius Onah was eventually tapped to direct, but news on the film had been hard to come by until recently. During this year’s D23 event, several new details emerged, including that one of the main villains would be Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader. We now know when production on the next film will begin.
Speaking to Collider, Julius Onah revealed that the production of Captain America: New World would begin in early 2023. Additionally, the director also revealed that they are well into pre-production on the film and are excited to dig into it:
“We are already very busy putting everything in place. As you know with these films, there are so many elements, between the casting and the script and the effects and the stunts. It’s really exciting to dive really deep into it.
The upcoming film will focus on Anthony Mackie’s Captain America as he fully assumes the role after the events of the Disney Plus series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here is the synopsis of the series:
After the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up on a global adventure that tests their abilities and patience in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon.” and The Winter Soldier.
Directed by Kari Skogland from scripts written by showrunner Malcolm Spellman and Derek Kolstad, the series stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo and Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent. Desmond Chiam, Miki Ishikawa, Noah Mills and Carl Lumbly also appear.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is currently available to stream on Disney Plus while Captain America: New World Order hits theaters on May 3, 2024.
