Writer Jim Starlin is convinced that the Mad Titan should make a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The villain, played by Hollywood star Josh Brolin, was first mentioned in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor (2011). However, the villain rose to fame in 2018’s Avengers Infinity War when the mad titan began his quest to collect all the Infinity Stones and defeat the population of the universe by exactly half.
Thanos
The villain left an indelible mark on the universe despite his brief appearance at the end of the Infinity Saga. His reputation as a fierce antagonist lives on. Claims that the Mad Titan was right were reflected in series like Hawkeye and the events of Eternals imply that his genocidal plan was truly beneficial to the universe, showing that his popularity only grew across the multiverse.
Fans would still want to see him return to the MCU in some capacity, despite his troubled history. Starlin, the originator of the character, makes a compelling case for why MCU should reintroduce Thanos once again.
According to Jim Starlin
Jim Starlin
Well, I think he probably strikes a chord. It raises questions that many of us have thought about. He’s also just a badass character. I don’t think anyone thinks we’ve seen the last of him. Disney made a lot of money with it and there’s probably still a lot of money to be made. So I’m crossing my fingers.“
The creator also addressed the “likelihood of reintroducing Thanos” to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
“I’ve heard that Marvel might want to use other characters that I’ve created. I think they’re burning out. Now that they have this multiverse, there’s the possibility of bringing Thanos back. And with Thanos , it opens up possibilities for other characters, there are a few that they haven’t used, like the Blood Brothers.
The Blood Brothers, which Starlin is referring to, are a pair of supervillains who have appeared in the Iron Man comics since their introduction in 1973. Jim Starlin also answered a question about the relationship between Thanos as well as his brother Eros (portrayed by One Direction Star Harry Styles), in addition to whether or not Eros would succeed in Thanos’ absence.
I think they plan to launch it without Thanos. Thanos and Warlock also have a lot in common and have an association, and they got a pretty good star for Adam Warlock. I doubt he’s in that movie alone.
Cable played by Josh Brolin in Deadpool 2
Either way, reviving Thanos wouldn’t be a huge challenge for Marvel Studios. They can either use the prequel strategy or the expanding multiverse to achieve this goal.
It would be easier for the studio to persuade Josh to fill his old shoes if the star is already set to appear in the next Deadpool 3 movie as Cable (Muscle Guy From The Future). They have to be careful here because anything can totally break the incredible storyline that MCU maintained in Phase 4.
