Mahershala Ali’s Blade Reportedly Cut From Marvel Disney Plus Special

Mahershala Ali will bring vampire hunter Blade to the MCU in his own film in 2023, but plans to introduce the character in a Disney Plus release this year have reportedly been scrapped.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade’s arrival in the MCU was teased in a post-credits scene in Eternals, in which Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman hears Blade’s voice, although Ali does not appear onscreen. A new report suggests the character nearly landed a bigger supporting role in another project ahead of his solo movie.

While the appearance was reportedly cut, Marvel Studios apparently intended to include the Daywalker in their upcoming Disney Plus Halloween special.

According to James Clement’s Weekly Planet podcast, Blade was originally scheduled to appear at Marvel Studios. night werewolf on Disney+.

Given that night werewolf seems centered around a gathering of monster hunters, the project would have had an obvious role for Blade to play. It seems plans to include Mahershala Ali’s vampire-hunting hero were never taken off the page.

Clement explained that scheduling conflicts were apparently preventing the concept from becoming a reality, saying:

“Anyway, here’s a scoop…Blade, I can’t prove it, was originally supposed to debut in a Halloween special but was cut due to scheduling conflicts…Monster hunter, going to a monster house. Makes sense, I love it. It doesn’t happen, apparently.

If this rumor turns out to be true, Marvel fans will definitely be disappointed to have missed out on a possible appearance by Blade in the black and white Halloween special.

Of course if night werewolf includes a surprise appearance from Blade, Marvel is unlikely to let the cat out of the bag until the special arrives. Otherwise, however, it seems unlikely that fans will be able to see the character before the release of Blade in November next year.

night werewolf stars Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Al Hamacher, Eugenie Bondurant, Kirk Thatcheras Jovan, Jaycob Maya and Daniel Watts. Michael Giacchino directed the special from a script written by Peter Cameron and Heather Quinn. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige serves as the executive producer.

night werewolf will be available on Disney Plus on October 7. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the special and be sure to subscribe to the Heroic Hollywood YouTube channel for more original video content.
