Dunn started out as a solo performer in music. With Churchill/MCA Records, he recorded two unimportant singles which made it to the charts: “It’s Written All Over Your Face” in 1983 and “She Put the Sad in All His Songs” in 1984. He founded Brooks & Dunn with Kix Brooks in 1990. Their debut album, Brand New Man, was released in 1991 and was rated 6 platinum by the RIAA. 12 studio albums, two compilations of their best work and a holiday album have all been released by Brooks & Dunn.
One of the most popular artists on the concert circuit, Brooks & Dunn has had twenty number one hits on Billboard and has sold over 30 million albums. They announced in 2009 that they would temporarily separate in 2010.

2011–12: First solo album and departure from Sony
In late April 2010, Dunn announced he was creating a solo album. The result was a new album titled Reboot, which features a number of the most Brooks & Dunn hits remade as duets with future country music talent. The CD was made available on April 5, 2019. On Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, it debuted at No. 1.
The 2019 Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum Induction Concert and Ceremony featured a performance by Dunn.
In 2019, Dunn announced that a covers album would be available in January 2020. The album, Re-Dunn, consists of twenty-four versions of iconic rock and country songs. On September 6, 2019, a cover of “Amarillo by Morning” was made available.
