As every fan knows how crucial dragons play in all wins and losses in the seven kingdoms, and during the dance they were so needed that Queen Rhaenyra started looking for dragon seeds to help her in his conquest.
But what exactly are Dragon Seeds? Let’s find out.
What are dragon seeds?
A “Dragonseed” is a low-born individual of bastard Targaryen ancestry, often residing on the Isle of Dragonstone.
The tradition of celebrating the first night was widely hated across the kingdom. Dragonstone, the castle where the powerful and crazy blondes had ruled for centuries, considered their handsome distant lords to be almost gods, so there was less resistance there.
Wives of Dragonstone lords who accepted their duties that night were considered “blessed” and their offspring were often showered with gifts. These goons were crafted from dragon seeds, and later were called simply “seeds”.
Although King Jaehaerys I Targaryen forbade the prerogative of the first night, some Targaryens persisted in having affairs with the wives and sisters of innkeepers and the wives of fishermen.
In this way, the seeds and their offspring persisted in large numbers on Dragonstone and neighboring regions, and many locals have reason to believe they had at least some Targaryen ancestry in them.
Role of Dragon Seeds in the Dance of the Dragons

It’s unclear if the victorious suitors truly possessed Targaryen blood, and whether or not that heritage was what allowed them to handle the dragons. Victorious baseborn Dragonriders were known as Dragonseed for the duration of the battle and in written records, regardless of where they actually came from.
Some known and surviving names include the likes of Hugh Hammer who was able to tame Vermithor, Addam of Hull, who rode sea smoke and ultimately succumbed to the war, nettles, was also a known dragonseed who rode Sheepstealer.
