Moncada hit the first home run of his major league career on July 26, 2017, against Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta. [Reference needed] Due to shin problems, he was placed on the 10-day disabled list on August 25. He played in 54 games in 2017 and finished the year with a .231 batting average, 8 homers and 22 RBIs.
In 149 games played in 2018, Moncada finished with a .235 batting average, 32 doubles, 17 homers, 61 RBIs and an MLB-high 217 strikeouts. With a field percentage of .963, he was the worst second baseman in the major leagues.
Likewise, Moncada reached career highs in a number of batting categories during the 2019 season, including hits (161), doubles (34), home runs (25), RBIs ( 79) and batting average (.315), with his batting average ranking third in the American League. In 2020, he hit with a .225 batting rate with six homers, and the following year hit 14 homers.
With an oblique stump in 2022, Moncada started the season on the disabled list. On May 9, Moncada was activated out of IL and made his season debut that day against the Cleveland Guardians with a score of 1 for 4.
