What happened at Vista High?
Private investigation
Vista High School’s football team is accused of inappropriate behavior and the Vista Unified School District Superintendent is seeking information from any witnesses who may have seen it.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and, as of Monday, a district-recommended private investigator are also investigating the incident, according to Superintendent Matt Doyle. According to Doyle, a district inquiry was launched a week and a half ago.
After chairing a Skype session for parents on Monday night, Doyle released the following statement: “A brave student has come forward with extremely disturbing accusations of student-to-student behavior in the locker room. In order to keep students safe, we reacted quickly to investigate and strengthen supervision.
Parents were made aware of the issue in a letter from Principal David Jaffe, who also provided a timeline for immediate student safety measures. Letter posted below by email

No sexual assaults
Vista High head football coach David Bottom has been placed on temporary administrative leave in light of ongoing player misconduct investigations, according to school district officials. The incident was not a sexual assault, according to the sheriff’s office and the school district.
Doyle claimed that the alleged incident did not involve any sexual assault. He also went public with the dismissal of the freshman football team coach.
In Doyle’s statement, it said further disciplinary action will be “guided by evidence obtained through our investigation.”
Doyle urged anyone with information to contact the district’s Human Resources Department or Private Investigator Howard Fulfrost via email at [email protected]
Doyle did not go into detail about the alleged wrongdoings, including who or how many were involved, but instead said they could have included threats made in the high school locker room, both verbally and physically.
Additional requests
Additional inquiries, according to the Vista Sheriff’s Department, include:
The Vista Sheriff’s Station was “notified by school authorities at Vista High School of an event involving potential misconduct by student-athletes” on Sept. 2, according to the agency’s email.
At this time, there is no reason to believe that students at Vista High School are in danger. Since then, the Vista Sheriff’s Station juvenile detective has been working with the school administration to determine what really happened.
Principal David Jaffe alerted parents to the problem in a letter, along with a timetable for immediate student safety measures.
Plans include everything from improving day-to-day dressing room monitoring by coaches operating under administrative control to offering counseling services.
According to the superintendent, the problems were quite serious and the school administrators were taking significant steps to correct them.
Review of video evidence
District officials, according to Jaffe, are talking with the students and reviewing the video evidence. The district investigation is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
A young man is seen crying as he is led into a locker room by a taller person and given a bear hug from behind in a photo of the incident that has gone viral on social media. The door is then closed and secure.
Although much of what happens inside is hidden, the young man can be seen lying on the ground with his legs raised in the air by another person. It appears that an adjacent student is holding a broom, which is visible.
There are laughs and cries of “rape it”. After about 35 seconds, the door opens and the student leaves. At this point, the movie is over. The video appears to depict children in distress, so The Coast News will not print it or provide a link to it.
Parents attended the school meeting:
The parents of several Vista High School football players are growing increasingly angry as they try to find answers to accusations of misconduct against team members.
They were due to meet with district and school authorities on Monday, but when they got there they found he had been moved to Zoom because the principal had tested positive for COVID-19.
During the meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half, Vista High principal David Jafee gave a timeline of when they claimed they were made aware of this alleged incident and how quickly it was communicated. to parents.
According to the principal, the alleged incident was reported to the Vista Unified School District superintendent two days after it was first reported to a coach on August 31. The parents were informed by letter on September 9.
The school was unable to provide information on what happened, including the number of players involved and potential victims, as the investigation is still ongoing.
Parents claim that children no longer feel safe. Many people were so afraid that something could happen to their child that they didn’t want to participate in an interview where their faces would be recorded on video.
According to the district, a safety action plan has been put in place that includes daily locker room monitoring, team meetings and guidance for any athlete who requests it.
The school principal said he hoped this investigation would be completed quickly so that it could determine exactly what happened and, if any sanctions were imposed, before the end of this week.
The district superintendent provided the following statement to ABC 10News ahead of the Monday evening meeting with parents:
People’s reactions to this incident
Elina Davis posted,
I’m shaking right now. I am appalled ! As the mother of an autistic child with very poor verbal skills, almost 10 years old and a graduate of Vista High School, my stomach just hurts and I want to vomit. I’m aware that a lot of people play on VHS football teams, have kids that go to school, or have friends that do. Say anything if you or they know something! Maybe it was even my child!
commented,
Unfortunately, incidents of this nature don’t just happen within the football team. This school is literally plagued by gang violence and as a result children and families have been expelled from their home communities. When you report issues, it’s just another day and hardly anything gets done; this cannot be possible given the strong connection between the gangs of the student body of this school. Incredible things are swept under the rug in this situation.

Why are football players usually the victims?
Andy tweeted,
I saw the video and it’s terrible. One of the men’s name is Angel.

That such acts still take place disgusts me. I was saddened to learn this at the high school I attended. A parent suggested I talk to the students and teach them the difference between right and wrong while I read the message. It’s not simple ! The young people involved are just plain ignorant and mean for ever considering doing such a terrible thing; these children should know right from wrong! I hope they go to jail! Whereas if I was the parent of the victim. Help me Lord. – to have a broken heart.

Before it’s too late, we must trust Jesus. As we get closer to our eternal destiny, we notice how unstable the earth has become. And where we spend eternity depends on our beliefs in Jesus Christ. We cannot be sure that we will be alive tomorrow, so this is an extremely serious problem. Jesus said you are saved by grace and faith. Hearing a message about Christ also leads to faith. Jesus declared that you are his disciples if you continue to live according to his word.

As a child psychologist, are you laughing at me when you say, “The boy in the video was not injured, according to the SDSO”? This kid was traumatized, and he probably will be for the rest of his life. I am disgusted by this insensitive attitude.
Araceli posted,
I am not happy with the way this is handled. This child, who is a minor, has probably endured more traumatic episodes that have lasted for weeks. He won’t reveal the whole truth, and neither will they. Children from other schools and other cities, in addition to his peers, are aware of this. It is impossible to say that there was no sexual assault and that he is unharmed while an investigation is still underway. Looks like the media did their own investigation and came to the conclusion that the abused teenager was fine. As the others receive a slap on the hand, he will live forever with the consequences.
