She-Hulk Episode 5 Review
The latest episode of She-Hulk is now available. Episode 5 saw She-Hulk battle Titania and her frivolous trial in court. The episode called back to a previous episode where she went on Matcher and had a few disastrous online dates. With this episode, the series definitely feels more like a sitcom and moves at a very slow pace. So let’s see the good and the bad of the recent episode.
Finally no cameos
This episode of She-Hulk had no cameos. While we loved seeing Wongers and Smart Hulk onscreen, it definitely slowed Jen’s story progression. Instead, Episode 5 focuses on She-Hulk and her main antagonist Titania. This gives Jen the opportunity to make her presence felt and carry the show on her broad green shoulders.
Titania doesn’t feel like a threat at all
Titania is a slimy, brash, and persistent villain in the She-Hulk comics. In fact, she is Jen’s nemesis. It’s also pretty obvious from Titania’s last appearance when she broke through the walls of the courtroom that she is unstable and extremely strong. Despite appearing in Episode 5, there isn’t much character development. He focuses on his life as an influencer but nothing else. Titania is a formidable villain and we expect to see her in the same light in the series.
Maintains sense of humor
With this episode also giving Nikki, Jen’s best friend, some screen time, it’s definitely tapping into the show’s sense of humor that fans have loved so far. Nikki, a fan-loved character, shows off her eccentric and edgy personality. There’s also the hilarious, cursed Avongers merch and the drip broker. This whole segment was really funny.
No post-credits scene was a disappointment
The post-credits scenes after each episode of She-Hulk were definitely a highlight that fans were looking forward to. Episode 5 breaks the trend by not including any at all. It was definitely an unnecessary and disappointing decision. The scenes provided hilarious comedy and were something unique to She-Hulk where every episode had one. The post-credits scene could have been fun and explored either She-Hulk and Nikki having fun, or even Jen trying out one of Titania’s products.
The return of online dates cringe
Again, we have to sit down during the terrible online dates which She-Hulk continued. Except this time it’s in court as a defense strategy. It’s clumsy and quite embarrassing of him. More importantly, it felt repetitive and was quite a boring segment. However, the fun part was when Jen’s lawyer read her profile. Hilarious one-liners and cute puns remind viewers exactly why they love She-Hulk and Tatiana Maslany in the role. In the Matcher profile, his About Me read “Mean, green and straight versed in these jeans.” The even funnier answer was Jens’ answer to “What do you look for in a partner” where she wrote “A strong backrest and a beefed up king size bed.”
Mallory Book joins the show
Jen’s attorney Mallory Book was definitely another highlight of the episode. She adds to the wonderfully variable female characters that have been introduced so far. Mallory played by Renée Elise Goldsberry is a strong and badass lawyer who also does not refrain from talking about She-Hulk. She’s brilliant on and off the court and I personally loved her addition to the already amazing cast.
Answers to copyright questions
With the court scenes, the questions we raised regarding copyright laws in the MCU have also been clarified. Public use of a superhero name by the superheroes themselves is sufficient and they do not need to acquire trademarks. It’s certainly a relief for the other supers out there.
