Shane van Gisbergen beat Will Davison for his 16th win.
A second Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint win of the day went to Van Gisbergen. While Cam Waters and Anton De Pasquale both struggled, the Kiwis’ points advantage exploded. In the final circuits, Waters swerved in pursuit of Chaz Mostert at Turn 9.
De Pasquale, on the other hand, was injured following early contact with Davison. With his 16th win, Van Gisbergen equaled Craig Lowndes’ tally from 1996.
Van Gisbergen’s only hurdle is Scott McLaughlin’s record of 18 wins, which he set in 2019. Additionally, van Gisbergen’s long career, which began in 2007, saw his 70th win. After a last second overtake on Mostert, Broc Feeney takes his second podium.
Van Gisbergen remarked: “What an amazing duel. It was crucial in those early laps.” “It’s a pity that Anton got injured, and we couldn’t all fight. “Double podium, congratulations to Broc. I was so pumped for the team.
On lap 17, van Gisbergen was brought in by Red Bull Ampol Racing, and he finished just ahead of Mostert. On lap 19, Waters and Brown stopped, leaving Davison alone in the lead. On lap 23, Davison finally stopped in the lead, losing two seconds to van Gisbergen on cold tyres.
Mostert was knocked to the ground by Davison and landed in Waters’ grip. Waters, however, made a crucial mistake at turn 9 and fell to 10th. Although Davison recorded a personal best on lap 28, the distance between him and van Gisbergen stabilized at two seconds.
