Captain America: New World Order director Julius Onah says the upcoming film will test Sam Wilson’s leadership abilities.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers passed the torch of Captain America to Sam Wilson. Unfortunately, it was the one Wilson didn’t want at first, and had to get John Walker’s coat back in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. By the end of the series, he had fully assumed the role.
After the series ended, it was announced that a new Captain America The film was in the works with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. Julius Onah signed on to direct the project later that year. Additional details about the film were released during this year’s D23, including that Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader would be one of the film’s main antagonists. Now the director is giving fans a hint as to what Sam Wilson’s arc will be in the upcoming movie.
While talking to ET, Julius Onah hinted at Sam Wilson’s arc in Captain America: New World Orderrevealing that much of this would involve testing his ability to lead others:
“We are really testing it. And now that he’s taken up the mantle of Captain America, he’s really going to wonder what it means to lead. And all the action and all the emotionality of the story is really built around his answer to that question. Its values will determine much of what will happen in the future. We put that to the test in this film.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is currently available to stream on Disney Plus while Captain America: New World Order will be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.
