The announcement of Pixar’s sequel to Upside down the film gives the studio a chance at redemption after Light year failed to perform at the box office. A critical and commercial success, Upside down will save the studio from its loss.
Upside down never really needed a sequel, but after two years of the pandemic and the unexpected disappointment, the studio had to do something about it. The sequel will eventually pick up Riley’s story after moving to San Francisco. Like the original film, it will tackle important issues such as mental health.

Disney sequels are the way to go
The news was revealed during the D23 panel, as well as the upcoming Elementary film and his first television series, win or lose. Disney has many projects in the works for the years to come, and the animation studio is exploring other ways to tell stories in the most creative and groundbreaking ways.
Sequels in animated films are always on a case-by-case basis. You need to establish a strong narrative in order to capture and hold the audience’s interest. Here’s why Pixar’s Inside Out needs a sequel
It’s absolutely a necessary and awesome plan to produce a sequel for Upside down. The film, while a complete story on its own, has the potential for a sequel. Pixar Light year was a tough concept to sell, but Upside down was direct for all audiences. He bets on the emotional side of the story that everyone can identify with, regardless of age.
All the interest of Upside down focuses on universal themes of childhood and the pains of growing up. This is the strong point of the film, one that resonates with all types of viewers. When Pixar announced the spin-off Light year in 2020, they relied only on the public’s affinity with the toy story franchise.
Now that the sequel is confirmed, fans will be able to witness another heartwarming story from Riley’s perspective. Apparently some actors from the 2015 film are not returning. According to Puck News, Amy Poehler will reprise her role as Joy. Unfortunately, Bill Harder and Mindy Kaling won’t be returning as Fear and Disgust due to salary issues. Poehler will receive $5 million, while the other two actors declined the offer of $100,000 each.
The film is reportedly in early production with Mark Nielsen serving as producer, and Pete Docter, Josh Cooley and Meg LeFauve will write the screenplay. upside down 2 should arrive in the summer of 2024.
