The animated series Batman: Crusader Caped is now watched by Netflix, Amazon and Hulu after Warner Bros. Discovery dropped it from HBO Max.
Last month, among a slew of projects canceled or abandoned by Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO Max, perhaps one of the most surprising developments was that Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves had planned Batman: Crusader Caped The anime series has been dropped by the streaming service, now offered as an option on other platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.
Many were stunned by the decision to leave Batman: Crusader Caped out of HBO Max, especially since the Dark Knight is perhaps the most popular fictional character owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, suggesting that a new original series from the creator of the famous Batman: The Animated Series would be an easy slam dunk for the platform. Now THR is reporting that Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves have pitched the series to Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, who remain the top contenders to pick it up.
Batman: Crusader Caped has a lot of potential landing on Netflix or Amazon. On the one hand, Netflix has already had a precedent with the release of series based on DC Comics properties, including The sand man. As for Amazon, that would also make sense given that two of their most popular original series are superhero series: The boys and Invincible. While both of these series are alternate takes on the typical Marvel and DC stories we see, it’s clear the streaming service would love to get its hands on a new series centered around perhaps the world’s most popular superhero. .
As for Hulu, given that Disney owns a majority stake in the service, it would be pretty interesting to see a DC Comics animated series under that umbrella. Either way, whoever ends up winning Batman: Crusader Caped is likely to find great benefits that HBO Max would have otherwise enjoyed.
