‘Don’t screw up the main villain like you did in season 1’: Fans wary of Ms. Marvel season 2 renewal, claim season 1 had worst villain of all MCU shows

With reports and rumors surfacing around the upcoming season of Iman Vellani starring Ms. Marvel, fans have expressed their unrelenting desire to see better fleshed out villains in the speculated next installment. According to various sources, the Disney+ series, only a few months after making its presence known to the world, has been renewed for a second season by Marvel Studios.

Although neither Disney nor Marvel Studios have confirmed anything just yet, fans are confident that the premise will see its continuation in the future. If that were indeed the case, the lackluster treatment and lukewarm portrayal of the first season’s villains is something audiences hope the story will leave behind.

Without a shadow of a doubt, we can say that the theme of the series envisaged by Bisha K. Ali brought a breath of fresh air to the monotony that had colored the image of the MCU. It was packed, energetic, authentic to its roots and had a fruitful history to offer. Iman Vellani’s iteration of Kamala Khan was true to essence. With the finale and an intriguing post-credits scene setting her up for exciting future adventures to look forward to, fans had only one tiny complaint – the bad guys.

The Clandestines were introduced in Episode 3. Najma, who is the central antagonist, leader of the Clandestines, and Kamran’s mother, exhibited a warm demeanor in the first moments of her interaction with Kamala. However, things quickly changed when they suddenly turned against the superheroine.

Many felt that the change in attitude was very obscure. Without even attempting to delve deep into the nature of the other Illegals, the team of “bad guys” barely had room to breathe and grow. Antagonists are often the key ingredient to making a premise interesting. In the case of Ms. Marvelefforts seemed flat, cluttered and disorganized.

When head writer Bisha K. Ali was asked about the problem with villains in the series, he attested to how the creators had “I missed a lot of the character development of The Clandestines. This was largely due to the challenges encountered while filming – a direct setback caused by the pandemic.

Therefore, with such a confusing mix of antagonistic characters whose motivations sometimes seemed somewhat dark, fans now want the reported season 2 of Ms. Marvel manage its villains in a logical, organic, and timely manner.

While many were thrilled that the news of the Disney+ MCU series was getting a potential renewal, others were quick to point out the first installment’s flaws and demand constructive change if Marvel Studios does indeed go ahead with the second season.

When it comes to the array of comic book villains Kamala Khan has faced, one of the fan favorites seems to be The Inventor. It would be quite interesting to see if the part-cockatiel, part-failure clone of Thomas Edison makes an appearance in the next season.

While the question of a season 2 remains uncertain, with no official confirmations yet, it’s crystal clear that Kamala Khan’s journey as Ms. Marvel has just begun. With the revelations of her mutant origins and an interesting cameo from Brie Larson in the post-credits scene, Marvel has carefully curated a future for the teenage heroine.

Ms. Marvel will next be seen in the MCU’s Phase 5 effort, Wonders, alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. The film is slated for release on July 28, 2023.
