Battleworld from Secret Wars
Marvel has already announced a whole slew of movies for Phases 5 and 6. One of those movies is Avengers: Secret Wars. This will be the last film of Phase 6 and will end The Multiverse Saga. The movie is slated for release on November 7, 2025. This was all announced by none other than Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige during San Diego Comic-Con 2022. In the comics, the Secret Wars event takes place on a planet alternative called Battleworld. So let’s explore Battleworld and what’s so special about it.
Exploring the Planet, Battleworld
Battleworld is a planet that was created for the Secret Wars event. Creation was an extremely interesting concept as Doctor Doom took patches of different worlds and realities that had been destroyed after the multiverse collapsed due to the incursions and put them all together to create a new planet. It was basically like a collage. For fans who don’t know what Incursions are, keep reading, we’ll cover that too!
This was also the time the Beyonders were losing their powers. Molecule Man managed to transfer the Beyonders’ powers to Doctor Doom. It was then that he became God Emperor. Battleworld even became known as Doomworld. He ruled the planet for almost 8 years. However, this ended when Molecule Man gave the Beyonders powers to Reed Richards and the planet was destroyed. The planet as expected was plunged into darkness and battles broke out between the remaining realities. Eventually, Doom managed to get things under control and split the factions into different realms in order to try and keep the peace. Doctor Doom then became judge, jury, and executioner while Doctor Strange aided him as sheriff.
Interestingly enough, this is also where Knowhere was created. The planet acted as Battleworld’s moon. Apparently a Celestial came to conquer Battlworld and Doom slew it, leaving the floating head to set an example for all other enemies. Eventually, Reed Richards and his son Franklin were able to restore the Multiverse once Doctor Doom began to falter.
What are Incursions?
If you’ve watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, you’ve heard that word before. It’s basically when universes collide with each other and are destroyed. Stephen Strange of Earth 838 had caused an incursion that destroyed another universe. Likewise, Sinister Strange had also caused an incursion that ruined his planet and brought it to nothing. Also during the credits scene, we see Clea telling Earth 616’s Doctor Strange that he had caused an incursion and needed to fix it.
How did they destroy the multiverse?
Coincidentally, Doctor Strange is also integral to the incursion that led to the destruction of the multiverse and the creation of Battleworld. This incursion was caused by a contraction of the Multiverse’s timeline. The Beyonders had created a bomb within Molecule Man that was supposed to go off at some point and destroy the multiverse. However, this event happened much earlier than expected. Molecule Man of Earth 616 had traveled back in time with Doctor Doom to set off the bomb and simultaneously strip the Beyonders of their powers. And so the destruction of the multiverse began.
Each universe was destroyed, with their respective Earths being the focal point. The last incursion involved Earth 616. Doctor Strange, Molecule Man and Doctor Doom killed the Beyonders but they were unable to stop the incursion. Instead, they created Battleworld with whatever was left of the multiverse.
Secret Wars on Battleworld
This event took place on Battleworld and saw Marvel’s mightiest heroes and villains go head-to-head. As the various Battleworld patches split into factions, the divide deepened. It was then that the secret wars were fought between these remaining domains. This event involved characters such as Magneto, kangThanos, Fantastic Four, avengers and even the X-Men. It was one of the biggest and longest running crossover events in Marvel comics, spanning multiple issues and including two more series as an introduction to Secret Wars. Basically, Avengers: Secret Wars will be of epic proportions and we can’t wait for it to happen!
