Cobra Kai made a name for himself with the public. The series wasn’t just for audiences who already loved The Karate Kid franchise from the 80s, but also attracted a large new fan base. While the fifth season of the season is currently streaming on Netflix, Sony has announced a brand new theatrical film based on The Karate Kid franchise. But just when everyone was beginning to find their connection to Cobra Kaithe series co-creator denied it and simply said he didn’t know much about it.

The announcement of a new movie left audiences shocked and surprised. Shortly after the series co-creator denied any involvement, fans also took to Twitter to express how less excited they were for the film.

The upcoming movie is not part of the Miyagi verse
The Cobra Kai series serves as a direct sequel to The Karate Kid franchise that started in 1984 and ended with four movies in 1994. Understanding they are called the Miyagi Verse. The series focuses on the lives of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence after 30 years from the original film. Although another movie starring Jackie Chan was released in 2010, it acted as a completely different plot and focused more on Kung Fu. If reports are to be believed, this new movie is not related to it.

The news came shortly after Sony announced the movie, and a fan asked the show’s creators if he would be in it. The show’s co-creator Jon Hurwitz said he and the others would be happy to make a movie about the Miyagi verse but that’s another thing.
The guys and I would love to do Karate Kid and Cobra Kai movies and hope to one day. But this one isn’t from us or focused on the Cobra Kai cast. I don’t know much about it, but I wish him good luck. #KarateKid #CobraKai https://t.co/pd2aYYAF0A

The announcement has already generated a lot of backlash. Specifically, they don’t know how this movie can be an active part of the franchise without being connected to Cobra Kai. Although the last movie in the franchise released in 2010 followed a different story and acted like a reboot, there’s little chance that movie will follow a similar path as well.

Cobra Kai Fans Are Blowing Up The Next Movie

As soon as the co-creator of Cobra Kai Jon Hurwitz has denied any connection between the film and the Netflix series, with fans taking to Twitter to express their disappointment. They didn’t take the time to express that the movie is doomed if it doesn’t follow the Cobra Kai script.
So sad to hear that. The Miyagi-Verse should be the only path for the Karate Kid to advance. Why do this?!? Even though it’s a prequel…a @SonyPictures saw the flashback scenes in @CobraKaiSeries? It does not mean anything!!

Shit. Talk about acceleration. I feel (at this point) it’s a little disrespectful, that they’re going ahead with a Netflix Karate Kid movie, when Cobra Kai isn’t even finished yet. But I guess I’m crazy to think so 😏

Sony rarely makes sense, it’s the company that makes Spiderman Universe movies without Spiderman.

Guess once all of their other content is out, we’ll all have to choose what makes sense on our own and leave the rest 🤷♂️. For me just original KK movies and CK series. The rest can go directly to 🗑

They are just surfing in the footsteps of CK’s success. It will fail.

Recently, Daniel LaRusso actor Ralph Macchio also said that with the Cobra Kaithere are also chances for a potential Karate Kid Cinematic Universe with many series and spin-offs. It will now be interesting to know what direction Sony is taking for this upcoming venture.
The Karate Kid is set to be released on June 7, 2024.
