Early life and education
Susan was raised as an only child in San Francisco by her father Dayl who was an insurance agent and her mother Marion Crow who was a homemaker. Susan grew up wanting to be a teacher and work with children. she attended a local secondary school where she practiced singing and acting, played tennis, and was one of the top students in her class.
She matriculated in 1984, then enrolled at Fordham University from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1988 – she continued her studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, earning her Masters in 1990.
Teaching career
Susan has spent most of her working life as a social science teacher and became a philanthropist shortly after meeting her husband Tony. Together they founded the organization Exploring The Arts (ETA), and since 1999 it has helped build more than 17 schools in the United States. The organization encourages students to study art. Susan is currently Chair of the Board of Trustees, and for their philanthropic activities Susan and Tony were awarded the George Washington University Medals in 2010.
