Ian only had one film role – in ‘Simon Birch’ – and has since focused on his upbringing. Since 2016, he has been a board member of Project Alloy, building a technical community.
Early life and education
Ian was raised as an only child in Elmhurst by his father Steve who was a taxi driver and his mother who was a housewife. Shortly after his birth, it was discovered that Ian suffered from Morquio Syndrome which results in dwarfism.
When he was nine years old, a movie scout found him and suggested Harvey Weinstein cast him as Kevin in the comedy film ‘The Mighty’, however, Harvey decided not to allow Ian to appear. in the film, being too young, but later suggested Ian for another film, and he then ended up appearing in “Simon Birch”.
Ian attended York Community High School and during that time underwent several surgeries including two bilateral osteotomies and a spinal fusion. Ian actually launched his career in May 2006, when he worked as an AAPD Federal Computer Intern at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) – he stayed with them for five months and then s focused on his studies before becoming an employed student at MIT, developing a Javascript framework for psychoacoustic testing from May 2008 to January 2009.
In June 2009 he joined Rosetta Stone as an intern but only spent three months with them, then in May 2011 he started working as a contractor at ANCILE Solutions, Inc. staying with them for four months.
From August 2010 to June 2012, Ian worked as a graduate assistant in the linguistics department at Gallaudet, before starting a contract job at Brilliant Echo (one year). His first major job was at Lookout where he was a software engineer from January 2012 until November 2014 when he was offered to start working in the same role at Revinate – he only stayed with them for four months.
In February 2015, Ian returned to Lookout, becoming their lead software engineer, but resigned in July 2016 to join PlanGrid, working there as a software engineer for one year and seven months.
In February 2018, he became a senior software engineer at Neighborly, staying with them for nine months before working for Dark, until June 2020.
Loving life and relationships
Ian prefers to keep his personal affairs to himself and has stayed away from the spotlight since starring in ‘Simon Birch’, but rumors are circulating on the internet that he might be a married man – according to these rumors he met his other half while attending MIT, and they married in a private ceremony in 2015 attended by only a few of their closest friends and family.
