Things get more exciting every week for HBO Dragon House. As the story of House Targaryen progresses to new heights, many conflicts and wars break out, resulting in broken trust and broken friendships.
Milly Alcock, who plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, thinks fans pitting her character against Emily Carey’s Alicent Hightower are ridiculous and ironic. Dragon House takes place two centuries before the events of game of throneswhere viewers witness the rise and fall of the Targaryen Empire and the ominous civil war called Dance of the Dragons.

Rhaenyra and Alicent’s relationship dynamics in House Of The Dragon
Rhaenyra and Alicent were introduced in the pilot episode as inseparable best friends until King Viserys I Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s father, chose to marry Alicent after his first wife died during childbirth. This caused a rift in the two young women’s friendship, and they find themselves at odds more than ever after Alicent gives birth to Viserys’ children.
In his recent interview with Nylon, Alcock spoke about the relationship between his character Rhaenyra and Alicent. She also talked about how the misogynistic practices of Westeros have caused this whole rift, and that both characters are victims of bad choices made by men.
“I think it was all written on the page, and Emily [Carey] and I understood very quickly what this relationship meant, and that we really needed to show their unconditional love for each other when we saw them. Especially in the first two episodes – so when the demise of that friendship inevitably happens, audiences care. Because I think the irony that I kind of found over the course of the series coming out is that House of the Dragon highlights yes, patriarchy, yes, misogyny, but also internalized misogyny which these two women are forced to face. They are forced to be put at odds with each other by the choices of men.”

The actress also pointed out that it’s “ironicfor fans to choose sides and pit the two characters against when it’s clear they’re the ones bearing the consequences.
“But what I found quite hilarious is that the fan base also puts the actors, young Alicent and young Rhaenyra at odds with each other, and chooses who is the best, also by decision of the most men. So I think it’s really just fucking ironic.”
Their friendship will remain in a tumultuous situation, with Rhaenyra still the heir, and Alicent’s children will have a stronger claim to the Iron Throne. Westeros will demand a man for the job, which will further sever their friendship.
