The Oscars have had their fair share of problems over the years. Marked by scandals, controversies and outrage, the public platform that singles out the greatest talents among a multitude of creative endeavors has failed to keep up with modern times. One of the key factors still plaguing the Oscars is its declining viewership and as a result, they have sought to expand into streaming from 2023.

The Oscars plan to go live from 2023
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang were faced with the question of making a sweeping call on the future of the Oscars. With an increasingly agitated audience, the awards ceremony could not have remained relevant in the coming era of instant mass media and live-streaming culture. Moreover, the continual backlash of bleaching at the Academy has haunted the Oscars’ plunging reputation.

The 95th Academy Awards, which will take place in March 2023, has now become a project to increase viewership traffic by moving the event from ABC to live streaming. The ceremony had been a staple of the television network. However, recent unrest has prompted Kramer and Yang to act with them by promising “a need to revitalize the show” focusing on a red carpet plus gala pre-event ceremony and honoring worthy craft winners. Among the plans to increase viewership is their new approach to “explore streaming show extensions”, which promises to step out of the comfort of Oscars TV status.
Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner embark on the Oscars
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang recently announced in a joint statement, “We are delighted to have Glenn and Ricky at the helm. We look forward to working closely with them, our Board of Governors and the Board Awards Committee to deliver an exciting and dynamic show. The producer duo are known in the industry for having “a focus on expertise in the production of live television events.”

The pair, obviously brought in to help smooth things over as the Oscars transitioned to streaming, acknowledged their excitement at the idea – “Bill made us an offer we couldn’t refuse. But he really “hello” to us. » Both Weiss and Kirshner have a gallon of accolades to their name, both being veterans in the realm of directing live TV events. If they end up succeeding in their endeavor, it will be an interesting change of pace and a definite marketing leap for the Oscars when they go live in 2023.
