Robert Federer and Lynette Federer welcomed Roger into the world on August 8, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland. Her mother is of South African descent, while her father is of Swiss-German descent. Additionally, the couple have a daughter named Diana who is older than Roger and grew up in the nearby town of Munchenstein.
Federer has said in previous interviews that his father, Robert, gave him tough love as he improved his tennis game. He remembered an instance where his dad left him in the middle of a practice because he thought his kid wasn’t taking him seriously.
Eventually, Roger managed to return home via the train station, but he later recalled how the experience made him realize what it would take to be successful as an athlete. Federer considers himself extremely lucky to have lovely parents who have been incredibly supportive of him.
Robert Federer and Lynette Federer
Everyone in Roger Federer’s family had a passion for tennis, and they all found it enjoyable. Federer’s parents introduced him to various sports during his formative years besides tennis, such as squash, basketball, and football. Federer credits his exceptional hand-eye coordination to participating in many sports from a young age.
His parents strongly supported his decision to play tennis professionally, and he began his career by being accepted at the age of eight into Basel’s junior tennis program.
Federer has always said that his family comes before any competition he takes part in. Federer and his wife hope to teach their children tennis the same way Roger’s parents, Robert and Lynette, did when they were younger.
