Early life and education
Amy was raised as an only child in Teaneck by her father Salvatore Aquino who was a gardener and her mother Adele Mesiti who was a hairdresser.
Amy became interested in acting while attending her freshman year in high school, and she was also very physically active as she played volleyball for her school team. Upon enrolling in 1975, Amy enrolled at the prestigious Harvard University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1979, however, when she realized she was more focused on acting than biology, Amy then enrolled in the Yale School of Drama, from which she earned an MFA in 1982.
