Under the new French law, films must wait 17 months for release on streaming platforms after their theatrical release. Due to this rule, no film from the fourth phase of the MCU has yet arrived at Disney + in France.

In the case of early adopters, the film requires a four-month window between theatrical release and its availability on the streaming platform. Disney said in this regard, “The media chronology forces us to evaluate our cinema releases film by film. We have not yet decided on the release of Black Panther.

France has changed its law on the theatrical release of films

France is well known for its love of movies and theaters. Until January 2022, under French law, no film was allowed on a streaming platform unless the film was three years old.

But on January 24, 2022, the French National Cinema Center and various film studios signed a new agreement. As part of this new agreement, the 3-year period has been shortened.

Before this agreement, Canal+ was the only streaming service authorized to host the latest films on its platform. The agreement shortened the period from 8 months to 6 months. It also allowed Disney+ and Amazon Prime to upload movies to their platforms 17 months after their theatrical release.

However, Netflix was allowed to upload movies after 15 months of theatrical release. This is probably due to Netflix’s promises to contribute financially to French cinema.
