The beginning
2007 was a turning point in Mason’s career when the Green Bay Packers selected Crosby in the sixth round of that season’s NFL Draft. He started his professional career with a bang by scoring three field goals in his first regular season game. Crosby became the first player in his NFL debut to kick a game-winning field goal with just over a minute left and a 50-yard field goal. He was successful with the team, breaking many leagues and team records. The most significant season of his career so far was 2010. Crosby was re-signed by the Packers on July 27, 2011 to a 5-year, $14 million contract. However, his performance after this season started to gradually decline. He had a 63.6 field goal percentage for 2012; it was the lowest field goal percentage in the league for an active kicker.
However, Crosby tied Ryan Longwell and Chester Marcol for the franchise single-season record with 33 field goals in the 2013 campaign. Again in 2016, Crosby and the Packers agreed to a four-year contract extension. years, but the following season he finished the campaign with a field goal completion rate of 78.9%, which was the lowest of his career since 2010.
Crosby continued to play for his team for four more years, and later, in 2020, he extended his contract with the Packers for a three-year, $12.9 million deal. However, the Packers added Crosby to the reserve/COVID-19 roster on July 30. He became operational on August 15, 2020. The Green Bay Packers amended the terms of Crosby’s contract on March 23, 2021, converting a portion of his base salary. into a salary bonus and his $1.25 million roster bonus into a signing bonus. His contract was extended by three blank years as part of this reorganization.
Crosby and Packers aren’t having a great 2022 season either. They’ve played two NFL games this season maintaining a 50% winning percentage. This season is crucial for the team and for Crosby to prove his abilities and shine again as he did in the past.
