After 3 movies, Brie Larson is set to reprise her role as Captain Marvel in the 2023 MCU movie, Wonders. Designed to bring in all of Marvel’s cosmically gifted women, the film will explore the continuity of Captain Marvel’s story after the events of Avengers: Endgame station where she had retired to help, rebuild and protect, as usual, the rest of the universe. The film will also serve as an introduction to Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau in the MCU overview.

The build of the MCU, from solo outings to Wonders
Captain Marvel was never, in particular, someone who could fit into a mold. His personality had stood out from conception, his rise as a cosmic superhero only added to that flair. But one of the tragedies of being made extraordinary is going it alone. Captain Marvel was an entity that very few could follow, and that’s what made the character so different and yet the film so unlikable.

As the success of The Avengers has taught us, audiences love teams and sneaky billionaires with a righteous person in control. Add a few gods and assassins into the mix and you have the holy grail. But in order for the characters to come together and fit each of their distinct personalities into the same framework, their personas must first be examined separately. Ms. Marvel, Wanda Visionand Captain Marvel helped achieve this, and with their origin story now complete, the MCU can finally prepare for a stunning set of Kamala Khan, Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers for their first outing together in and as Wonders.

Brie Larson talks about her character arc in Wonders
In her fervor to contribute to the Marvel Universe, Brie Larson’s character had come and gone as she pleased depending on who needed her most as a savior. But given his ability to completely decimate a Chitauri Leviathan in seconds, it hardly needs mentioning that Captain Marvel would need a sidekick or a helper or a guy behind the computer. Wonders will change all that. At the Disney D23 Expo this year, Larson claimed,
“Well you can see a new side to Carol [Danvers] where she has to learn to let go of some control and realize that she makes mistakes and she needs support, she needs help. This is the beginning of this new phase for her.

What is it exactly “new phase” As for Captain Marvel, that remains to be seen, though Larson and co-star Iman Vellani have claimed there’s added depth and emotional complexity to the former’s character. Considering the list of superheroes on Wonders aka Iman Vellani’s effervescent Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, it won’t be long before Captain Marvel learns to play as part of the team and brings incredible energy to the screen in the (rumored , be a musical) film, Wonders.
Wonders premieres on July 28, 2023.
