Marvel’s Kevin Feige Reportedly ‘Spread Too Thin’ As Blade Faces Issues

It is reported that Mahershala Ali Blade is struggling, with scripting issues plaguing the project as Marvel chief Kevin Feige finds himself too spread out amid the studio’s growing output.

Anyone who saw the Marvel Studios Phases 5 and 6 slates unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con this year knows that Kevin Feige has a lot on his plate right now. Between Disney Plus and theatrical releases, Marvel is looking to release eight or nine projects a year in 2023 and 2024.

The studio’s new strategy is obviously a far cry from the two or three annual MCU releases that audiences were used to seeing during the Infinity Saga. It’s no surprise to hear that the sudden increase in production could create new pressures, potentially impacting projects such as Blade.

Jeff Sneider of The Ankler reported that sources inside Marvel claim that Mahershala Ali is frustrated with the production process on Bladewhile Kevin Feige may be struggling to get a handle on Marvel Studios’ gargantuan workload.

Blade He is said to currently have a script of just 90 pages and only features two action sequences, which sources described as “lackluster”. If that’s correct, it seems Marvel’s increasingly divided focus on a growing lineup of projects is weighing on the movies.

Sneider revealed via Twitter:

“I was told that the current BLADE script is about 90 pages long and has exactly TWO (dull) action sequences. Mahershala said he was very frustrated with the process. Feige said he was stretched too thin. is exactly what the sources tell me. Don’t shoot the messenger”

Of course, it is difficult to verify insider reports like this and even if problems arise in the production of Blade, a number of factors can contribute to the situation, so it’s best to take reports like this with a pinch of salt. However, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to hear Marvel start to feel the pressure of putting so many projects into production at once.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade last appeared in Marvel’s Eternals. Here is the synopsis:

The story takes place over two periods. A storyline takes place in the past when they functioned as a great team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and divided, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The overriding threat of the Deviants, once again threatening the existence of humanity, means the Eternals must put aside their differences and band together.

Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a screenplay she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD and also to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the MCU and subscribe to the Heroic Hollywood YouTube channel for more original video content!
