Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine has caught the attention of DCEU fans. If you’ve been in the news for the past two days, you now know that Dead Pool 3 will showcase the actor’s return as one of the most iconic Marvel characters of all time. When the announcement was posted, fans seemed worried about the continuity of the canon following the events of Logan (2017). To assuage the public’s qualms, another update video has been posted by Ryan Reynolds.

What has been said implies that the events of Dead Pool 3 will follow a completely different narrative that won’t erase the canonical essence of the 2017 film. ecstatic.
What’s been intriguing to see is the response from DCEU fans. Consumers of the franchise have long been deprived of news regarding the proper restoration of the SnyderVerse. Only receiving speculation and rumors as food for thought. However, when Ben Affleck’s Batman was confirmed to return in both the flash and Jason Momoa Aquaman sequel, most DCEU fans found a silver lining.
Now, to step up to recent MCU exploits, some of the rival franchise’s fans are trying to top the former by explaining how the “DC Fans Win” as well.
Are DCEU fans winning?
One user, taking to Twitter, explained how Ben Affleck’s return as Batman, Henry Cavill’s (rumoured) return as Superman and a Constantine sequel – starring Keanu Reeves reprising his role from 2005 – being currently in development at A New Beginning for DC Movies. As for Affleck reprising his role as Batman, fans were left with no hope after the actor, in 2019, declared he was officially stepping down from portrayal.
However, the news of his return to the flash broke the internet in 2020. Just recently, See alum Jason Momoa posted a photo with the famous actor, confirming his appearance in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. DCEU fans seemed to have had a winning streak with Affleck’s announcements.

Additionally, the cult-classic effort, Constantine (2005) received the announcement of a sequel, which is currently in development. To make things more exciting, instead of opting for a possible recast, Keanu Reeves is back to play John Constantine, also known as Hellblazer- the supernatural demonologist and exorcist; a character who has managed to earn cult recognition from DC fans.
On the other side of the spectrum, moving away from confirmed possibilities, we have Cavill’s portrayal of Superman. The tremendous campaign that has gone into his iteration of the Man of Steel is simply insurmountable. With black adam, Lead actor Dwayne Johnson has inflamed fan expectations by constantly teasing a plausible fight between his character and Superman.
Additionally, Johnson championed and enjoyed Henry Cavill’s iteration of the most popular superhero. Besides these inclinations, the rumor mill has rewarded DCEU fans with reports hinting at the actor’s return. However, all things considered, the public should always take such speculation with a pinch (or maybe a handful) of salt.
When we factor in such possibilities, do DCEU enthusiasts really win out? Well, they seem to think so – and who are we to rain on their parade?

While some think these small accomplishments barely beat what the MCU has to offer their fans, others have argued that it’s definitely a start for something new. Most fans seem wary of the implications of the cameos Ben Affleck signed up for. For years, fans have wanted to see Batfleck’s solo movie come to fruition. However, Affleck himself attesting to how he won’t be playing the Caped Crusader “much longer”, such hopeful assumptions are only likely to do harm in the long run.
Moreover, the case of Henry Cavill has also raised suspicion in the minds of many. Without any official confirmation, the future of his return looks bleak. However, fans are convinced that the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav will usher in a new era of DC films, which will aim for an MCU-esque model of success. So while this doesn’t compare to the greatness of Marvel’s undertakings, it signals the start of something big.

While the DC fandom consists of an amalgam of hopeful dreamers and vigilant skeptics, it would be interesting to see whether or not Zaslav “Ten-Year Plan” for the DCEU movies work in favor of fans of the franchise who have stuck with their favorite superheroes, villains, and characters that exude every shade of gray in between for decades. The next few days will reveal if the DCEU manages to counter the MCU thanks to the CEO’s attempts at a sustainable business growth model.
For now, fans of both franchises can look forward to the return of their favorite superheroes.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will return in Dead Pool 3 scheduled for release on September 6, 2024. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck will appear in upcoming DCEU projects the flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2023 and December 25, 2023, respectively.
