The Johnny Depp v Amber Heard trial that played out in its ugliest form during the publicly televised libel case ended up having one person deified and another ostracized in the eyes of the majority. Yet vestiges of the trial linger in the background, and debates sometimes ensue between the two factions to argue and counter-argue the validity of the evidence presented. In the meantime, however, Tubi Originals has continued to produce and direct a film based on the televised libel lawsuit that aired on September 30.

I don’t understand. We all watched the trial. Why would anyone want to watch this? The trial was triggering for victims everywhere and re-traumatizing for Amber. Why would anyone find that amusing?

Along with claims that the show is “one-sided” and “dehumanizing,” it also stands out as ethically wrong for a streaming platform to use celebrity lawsuits for profit. However, given Tubi’s limited reach, the audience’s outcry will do very little to help the TV movie get retracted, if that’s what they intended. In the meantime, the poorly acted, low-budget film allows rage to ensue as both sides prepare for round two of the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard real-time trial.
