Jacob Batalon has talked about taking on more villainous roles in the future, possibly suggesting his character in the MCU Spider Man series, Ned Leeds, could become the Hobgoblin.
Fans have been hoping to see Batalon’s Ned become the villainous Hobgoblin since his introduction to the MCU in 2017 Spider-Man: Homecoming. For a time in Marvel comics, Ned Leeds was seen as the Hobgoblin while being brainwashed to serve as a decoy to Roderick Kingsley, the real Hobgoblin.
While the future of Marvel Studios Spider Man franchise and Ned’s place within it are uncertain at the moment, Jacob Batalon has hinted that he’s looking to move on to more villainous film roles.
In a recent interview with Esquire, Jacob Batalon was asked if he would consider playing more villains in the future, which the Spider Man The star showed enthusiasm and suggested she might already be in the works.
Batalon explained how he used to gravitate towards darker roles, as well as the positive impact of playing Ned in the MCU Spider Man movies had on him. The actor has said more villainous roles are already “in the works” for him, which may refer to projects outside of the MCU, but could suggest there’s already been talk of introducing The Hobgoblin. .

“You know, I would love to. I feel like an actor [when I was in drama school] I really leaned into really dark dramatic things as opposed to comedy and things like that, but I found, you know, playing Ned and Reginald, it kind of gave me that light where I I didn’t see things so negatively and I didn’t think so deeply or gloomily about things…it’s a very light presence and it’s had a very positive effect on my life. So I feel like… I’m looking forward to doing a lot of other things, which you know, people might not see me doing right now. But yeah, those things are in the works for sure.
When Jacob Batalon last appeared as Ned in Spider-Man: No Coming Home last year, the character discovered he had magical abilities and was able to use Doctor Strange’s Sling Ring. So future Spider Man the movies build on this, it’s possible audiences could see a mystical version of the Hobgoblin.
