September 2022 saw the emergence of one of the biggest leaks in gaming history. Rockstar Games was hacked and the hacker discovered and released several videos and images showing an unfinished version of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The game industry is very secretive and because of this secrecy, the video game industry has always been prone to leaks. Whether the source is an outside hacker or a disgruntled former employee, the gaming industry has suffered major leaks over the years. Below, we’ll list 5 of the biggest leaks in gaming history.

Fallout 4 script leaks
After Fallout 3 enjoyed the immense critical and commercial acclaim it garnered, fans of the game around the world have been eagerly awaiting Bethesda’s direct sequel to the 2008 classic. Fallout: New Vegas was also beloved, this game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment rather than Bethesda Softworks and was more of a sidequel than a direct sequel.

In December 2013, one of the biggest leaks in gaming history happened. Jason Schreier posted an article via Kotaku stating that the popular gaming site has received scripts and character descriptions along with other details regarding the development of Fallout 4. The scripts in question confirmed that for the first time in franchise history, the player character would have a voice actor, rather than just on-screen text dialogs.
Walmart Canada E3 2018 Leaked
Another of the biggest leaks in gaming history happened in May 2018 when Walmart Canada put a significant amount of placeholder pages on its website for upcoming games that were set to be announced at E3. the next month. This basically revealed all the major reveals coming from that year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.

For those not in the know, the weeks leading up to E3 are a feverish time in the echo chamber of video game conversation. Predictions are made on social media and on podcasts and YouTube videos. Some may even say that the pre-E3 speculation is usually a lot more fun than the show itself. So Walmart Canada is leaking all of the next just cause game, to a new one Assassin’s Creed the title basically sucked up much of the excitement from the 2018 conferences.
The last of us part 2
The main problem with creating a hugely successful and beloved original IP is that fans of that initial game are going to be eager for any hint of a follow-up. This was the case with The last of us part 2. Although the game has already been officially unveiled by Naughty Dog and Sony, these are important plot details that were leaked just months before the game was released.

These leaks included a handful of cutscenes. One of those leaked cutscenes was the pivotal cutscene in which Joel is murdered by Abby. This meant that one of the game’s biggest twists was spoiled before the game was even released and another of the biggest leaks in the game’s history took place.
Every Assassin’s Creed game
Anyone who follows the gaming industry will be acutely aware that trying as they might, Ubisoft is seemingly unable to stop. Assassin’s Creed be disclosed each year before it is officially announced. Some years these leaks come from Reddit, sometimes they’re Walmart Canada’s fault (as mentioned above) and other times an employee is seen working on a presentation for the unannounced game on a public plane. . This is not a joke. Believe it or not, this is something that actually happened.
Even as recently as the beginning of this year, AAssassin’s Creed Mirage(who is the THAT launch of the game in 2023) was leaked online before being officially revealed during this year’s Ubisoft Forward. five separated Assassin’s Creed projects were announced at the Ubisoft Forward event and honestly, it’s surprising that all five haven’t leaked before.
The leak of GTA VI
In case you’ve been living under a rock, screenshots and a gameplay video appeared online on the 19th.e from September 2022. Although not 100% clear at first, the video showed a female character robbing a restaurant (it was very reminiscent of the restaurant robbery scene in pulp Fiction).

The gameplay appeared to take place in the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE). This game engine was also used in the development of the two Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto Vas well as both Red Dead Redemption Games.
A few days after the leaked images, Jason Schreier confirmed the legitimacy of the leaks via Twitter. The leaks were later confirmed when Rockstar itself released a statement regarding the security flaw. The allegedly guilty teenager has since been apprehended in Oxfordshire, London, and appeared in court on September 29.e to plead not guilty to the charge of computer misuse in front of a judge.
