Upcoming production Blade the reboot with Mahershala Ali would have been postponed to 2023.
Next Marvel Studios Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali suffered a setback last week when it was announced that director Bassam Tariq had left the project, leaving the film without a director at the helm. The search for a new director is currently underway, while X-Men ’97 Head Writer Beau DeMayo was tapped to do another pass on the script, with a recent report claiming a complete rewrite of Page 1 was planned.
In the midst of the setbacks of the project, Blade was about two months away from the start of principal photography, and now it looks like production will be delayed. Jeff Sneider of The Ankler shared the following, explaining that Mahershala Ali’s first MCU headlining movie will be delayed due to the search for a new director:
Lizzie Hill, editor of The Cosmic Circus corroborated this claim, although she had heard that production could be delayed to January 2023. BigScreenLeaks on Twitter also corroborated this report that Blade will not begin production until at least the beginning of the following calendar year:
As of now, Marvel Studios currently has Blade is set to hit theaters on November 3, 2023. With just over a year to go before its supposed release, given that principal photography appears to be possibly delayed until early 2023, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it ultimately delayed further. down the Phase 5 slate to accommodate production changes. Either way, fans may have to be a bit more patient before they finally see Mahershala Ali bring the character to life on the big screen.
