Jonás Cuaron Directing Sony’s Marvel Movie Starring Bad Bunny

Sony’s El Muerto film has found its director, as Jonás Cuaron has embarked on the next Marvel project which is set to star Bad Bunny.

TheWrap reports that Jonás Cuaron is directing the El Muerto project from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote the upcoming Blue Beetle movie starring Xolo Maridueña. Music superstar Bad Bunny plays El Muerto, a super-powered wrestler who made his comic book debut in the pages of Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man #6.

Son of four-time Oscar winner Alfonso Cuaron, Jonás Cuaron is best known for his work on the 2015 thriller Desertwinner of the FIPRESCI award at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. Meanwhile, Dunnet-Alcocer is the author of the highly anticipated blue beetle film, its most recent release being the action film of 2019 Miss Bala from Sony.

Bad Bunny, aka Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is a Puerto Rican artist who has won two Grammy Awards. He made his acting debut in the third season of Netflix Narcos: Mexico before appearing in the action film directed by David Leitch High-speed train against Brad Pitt.

Sony announced the El Muerto movie at its latest CinemaCon panel in April. In addition to El Muertothe studio is also developing a slew of other Marvel projects, including Kraven the hunter and Madame Web.

Here’s the synopsis of Sony’s latest Spider-Man spin-off Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and divisive characters hits the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic anti-hero Michael Morbius. Dangerously afflicted with a rare blood disease and determined to save others suffering the same fate, Dr. Morbius takes a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a drastic success, a darkness within him is unleashed and turns this healer into a hunter.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the main antihero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
