Eka Darville and Kevin Durand head to the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Eka Darville (Jessica Jones, Power Rangers RPM) and Kevin Durand (Locke and Key, Strain) are the latest actors to join the cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Details regarding Darville’s character weren’t available at press time, but Durand would play a naughty monkey, as reported by Deadline.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Wes Ball, the man behind the three maze runner movies with Dylan O’Brien. The screenplay was written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison.
Besides Eka Darville and Kevin Durand, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes also stars Owen Teague, Freya Allen and Peter Macon. Filming begins this month for a 2024 release.
The first movie of the Planet of the Apes franchise was based on a novel by Pierre Boule. It was released in 1968 and followed Charlton Heston as an astronaut who crash-landed on a planet ruled by intelligent apes, only to find he was actually on Earth years after it was devastated by a nuclear war. The highly successful film resulted in several Planet of the Apes sequels, a TV series and a 2001 remake by Tim Burton before Fox rebooted the franchise with a trilogy that started in 2011 The Ascension of the Planet of the Apeswith Andy Serkis.
