Ventrone, sometimes referred to as “The Marine” when playing for Juventus, was seen as primarily responsible for the extraordinarily high level of physical preparation of Conte’s teams.
To see how much he pushed his players, just think back to the now famous training session in Seoul that followed Tottenham’s first pre-season game in South Korea. Nevertheless, he was adored by those in his charge and was recognized as a gentle, encouraging and benevolent spirit.

Giampiero Ventrone: who was he?
Giampiero Ventrone is a certified trainer from Italy. He worked as a sports coach for Tottenham after being a fitness coach for Juventus. He spent ten years as a member of the Bianconeri between 1994 and 2004.
Ajaccio, Catania, Jiangsu Suning, Guangzhou Evergrande and Ventrone are among the companies he has worked with.
Gian Piero Ventrone received a flood of condolences.
Ventrone scored his hat-trick against Leicester City just before the final international break. After hugging him for a long time, Sonny complimented him as follows:
Yes, he is a murderer. Although he’s a killer, Gian Piero and I get along incredibly well. Since he occasionally uses his phone to translate from Italian to English, it is clear that his English is not excellent. It is significant. Although I don’t think he has as much life advice as in terms of football, I still really appreciate him.
He always gave me a warm hug and was by my side and every member of staff which was incredibly helpful. We had a few minutes of pleasant conversation even today before leaving the hotel for the training ground, which made me feel incredibly grateful and at ease.
Similar thoughts about Ventrone were voiced by Matt Doherty, who notably commented on how much the players adore him despite working them to exhaustion for fitness reasons.
“I’ve never had such a tough pre-season like this,” I said. It’s ironic because you’ll often end up hating a fitness trainer who pushes you to the limit, but we all love it. We follow his instructions because we respect him so much.
Career
Born in Naples on April 14, 1960, Ventrone was nicknamed “marine” for his very hard and tiring training. He began his career in 1994, as a sports coach for Marcello Lippi’s Juventus until 1999 and from 2001 to 2004. Once his experience at Juventus ended, he collaborated with Lippi in the preparation of the Cup 2006 FIFA World Cup, won by Italy.
He continued at Atalanta from September 2009 to January 2010. And, he worked with Antonio Conte in Bari and Siena and with Fabrizio Rovanelli, a player he trained at Juventus, as an assistant coach in Ajaccio . He had been a sports coach in Catania, Jiangsu and in Guangzhou of Fabio Cannavaro during the 2017-2018 season, before joining his friend Conte at Tottenham Hotsupr in 2021.
His rhythms and workloads have knocked out several athletes. Images of Harry Kane collapsing and vomiting and Son Heung-min nearly passed out and lying in agony on the ground during a summer prep in Seoul have been circling the web.
