The latest Disney+ show She-Hulk: Lawyer faces a lot of criticism day after day on Twitter over the sexualization of Jennifer Walter. Not all are so against this series though, comic book fans defend Jennifer Walters by comparing her to other sexualized characters in comic books.

This all happened after a wild turn with an unexpected cameo that introduced Jennifer Walters to pop sensation Megan Thee Stallion. And Twitter was talking about it. Critics took to social media shortly after the episode premiered to slam it, comment on it, laugh it off, and create memes.

Critics Being Misogyny At This Point With Female Marvel Characters
Some critics do not recognize that Tatiana MaslanyShe-Hulk is a distinct character that cannot be compared to Hulk. She-Hulk and Hulk only share green skin, intelligence, super strength, and gamma radiation. And this isn’t the first time a female debut has come under fire. This trend has continued since the release of Captain Marvel in 2019 and so on with characters like Ms. Marvel, Black Widow and now She-Hulk.

These reactions demonstrate how difficult portraying female characters can be for filmmakers when existing toxic audiences or fans choose young, white, cisgender, and male superheroes over bisexual or female characters.

Never mind that the number of female superheroes and content is increasing. However, granting actresses such roles that could undermine the masculinity that defines the established gender remains a problem for some.
Fans are comparing Jen to Matt Murdock when it comes to sexualization
Matt Murdock has had sex with multiple people and is praised for it. When Jennifer Walters does the same thing, people accuse her of having “no respect” for herself. Either that’s hypocrisy or outright misogyny.

Jen does the same and people say she has “zero respect” for herself.
Just say you’re a misogynist at this point. #SheHulk pic.twitter.com/sO3W80GSW0

Look at it this way:
A key that can fit multiple locks is a master key.
A lock that a lot of keys can fit in is pretty much… pointless.Double standards, right?

OK. Compare Jen to someone like Tony Stark. He was a guy who “slept pretty easily” when we first saw him. Nobody complained about it, so why complain about it?

The show has a lot of legitimate issues to criticize
This one is not one.
I hate when people don’t like something for the wrong reasons.

We can’t ignore the fact that the character has always acted that way in the comics. For example, in one of the classics Number 40 from the She-Hulk comic, Jennifer Walters is apparently completely naked and covers herself in some way with a gigantic seal of the Comics Code Authority. And because the plot manages to strike a balance between turning the joke on the readers and condemning the character, it never felt offensive or insulting.
Some fans are hoping that Jennifer Walters embraces her unlimited confidence and powers, whether they like it or not. New episodes of She-Hulk: Lawyer airing every Thursday on Disney+.
