A new report claims that Craig Zobel is joining the DC Universe through HBO Max’s Penguin series.
According to TalkFilm, Easttown Pond director Craig Zobel reportedly in talks with executive producer and HBO Max direct episodes The Batman spin-off series centered on Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. Colin Farrell reprises his role as the iconic DC Comics villain.
HBO Max gave the series a direct order to The Penguin (working title) in March 2022. Production on the series is expected to begin early next year, with filming set to take place in New York City, as reported by Production Weekly.
Colin Farrell is executive producer on The Penguin next to The Batman director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark. Lauren Le Franc (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) monitors The Penguin as screenwriter and showrunner.
Earlier this year, Colin Farrell opened up about his return to the role of The Penguin, teasing that his series is around six to eight hours long. “I hear we’re going to be allowed to do some sort of R-rated version, maybe, which would be nice to explore the violence that might allow, maybe, and the darkness that might allow us to ‘explore,'” Farrell said.
The Batman opened last March, earning 770.8 million at the worldwide box office. Matt Reeves is currently working on a sequel to the DC Films project, with the filmmaker penning the screenplay alongside Mattson Tomlin.
