Chris Pratt, infamous for playing the role of Star-Lord, a carefree space pirate with the blood of a god running through his veins in the MCU, is no stranger to hard work and dedication while playing a role which he is assigned.
To get caught playing the game Guardians of the Galaxyto maintain this form in the jurassic world series and honing his acting skills to appear in Disney’s Aheadhis skills have never let anyone down, ever!
But as they say, there’s a first time for everything, and the recent launch of The Super Mario Bros. The trailer for the film is perhaps the first time that Pratt’s skillset may have failed to live up to fan expectations.
What is the commotion about?
With the recent reveal of the trailer for the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. movie, fans were left with mixed feelings, mostly feelings of disappointment hearing their favorite virtual plumber voiced by the Guardians of the Galaxy star. There was speculation about what type of voice Pratt would display for the character and whether Chris Pratt would attempt the iconic Italian accent. Although the trailer only featured a small portion of Mario’s voice acting, it looks like Pratt is taking the character to a “different” direction.

Mario’s voice is an instantly recognizable part of pop culture. Therefore, having it changed so drastically for the movie in favor of an accent that sounds nearly identical to Pratt’s own voice (as well as other voice-over roles he’s had in the past) gives the impression that this could be a potentially dangerous misstep that can alienate an already skeptical Fanbase.
And just to back up those fears, Twitter users started tweeting, giving their various (mostly negative) opinions on how Chris Pratt would have been better off being replaced by a voice actor who “really taken care of” on the role.

It’s almost sad to see how fans are reacting to Chris Pratt’s performance in one of the highly anticipated upcoming movies. And given the over-the-top nature of the other Mushroom Kingdom characters, Chris Pratt’s relatively lacking Mario voice was rightly criticized. Whether The Super Mario Bros. film is to be successful, it will require Pratt to accept and fully commit to the overall tone of the project.
The Super Mario Bros.. will be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.
