Margot Robbie is infamous for playing emotionally driven anti-hero Harley Quinn, the obsessed love interest of the Joker in the DC Universe. Later, she finds the consciousness of breaking up with the man who loves manipulating her more than loving her and finds family in the group of dysfunctional misfits, called the Birds of Prey. However, this role is now celebrated as a multi-faceted role, pursued by directors and actors for the immense potential that Margot Robbie made possible.

Harley Quinn launches into the world of DC
Harley Quinn is not a private figure owned by one person and one director under one studio. DC’s still-extensive scriptures allow the franchise to simultaneously pursue parallel storylines without detracting from the larger narrative. Unlike Marvel, it doesn’t have to be one-sided and connected in every aspect.

Margot Robbie’s portrayal is getting similar treatment, as we continue to see an increase in the same characters in multiple places throughout DC – Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson as Batman, Joaquin Phoenix and Barry Keoghan as as Joker, and now Lady Gaga takes a seat at the table next to Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

Todd Phillips’ universe is intrinsically rooted in social satire. Its award-winning episode explored humanity’s deep-rooted baseless cruelty and now follows it with a musical sequel, Joker: Madness for two in a tone similar to the previous one. As the titular character, played by Joaquin Phoenix, continues to battle reality and his own demons, Lady Gaga joins him as rightful queen alongside the Clown Prince of Crime.

In light of the casting, Margot Robbie, the only person to bring the anti-hero to the screen to date, exclaimed her joy and pride in being one of the forerunners of this character and now being able to pass the mantle to another talented actress.
“It makes me so happy because I said from the start, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, like Macbeth or Batman always go from, you know, great actor to great actor. And it’s kind of like somebody doing their Batman or somebody doing their Macbeth, you know?
[…] It’s such an honor to have built a strong enough foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors can play. And I think she’s going to do something amazing with it.
