House of the Dragon episode 8 had a lot going for it, especially with the Targaryen family. Queen Alicent was to obtain the Red Keep and her son Aegon for the arrival of Princess Rhaenyra and the demon Targaryen at King’s Landing. King Viserys joined his entire family for supper one last time before his final moments on the show. However, amid all the chaos in the Red Keep, Talya, Queen Alicent’s servant, quietly slips away and reports to no one else that Lady Mysaria aka the White Worm. We’ve already seen Mysaria have an incredibly extensive spy network all over King’s Landing. And his role will only get bigger from now on.
Prince Aegon’s despicable act in House of the Dragon episode 8
As Queen Alicent attends to the affairs of the King’s Little Council in place of King Viserys, Ser Erryk Cargyll calls her with an urgent matter regarding Prince Aegon II. We see Alicent returning to her chambers where her servant Talya was waiting for her with a maid who was sexually assaulted by Prince Aegon. The maid was just a young girl. Queen Alicent comforted her, or at least attempted to. She knew her son was capable of such atrocities. However, Alicent also threatened Dyana and forced her to keep quiet about the incident. That’s when she mentions that only three people know about what happened, Alicent herself, Erryk Cargyll, and Talya. This point of course becomes particularly important when we see Talya reporting to Lady Mysaria.
Talya works for Mysaria aka the White Worm
It’s no surprise that Lady Mysaria, aka the White Worm, also has spies within the confines of the Red Keep. However, the spy being Queen Alicent’s servant is definitely a big deal. While Mysaria herself says a lot must have happened at the Red Keep that night, the most important piece of information is what happened earlier that day involving Prince Aegon. This information is exclusive to only three people in all of King’s Landing, making it far more valuable than anything that’s happened. Talya will certainly report everything she knows, including Dyana’s sexual assault, to Lady Mysaria. However, it remains to be seen what Mysaria does with this knowledge.
How could this bring about the downfall of Aegon and Alicent?
Lady Mysaria is an underrated intelligent and cunning character in House of the Dragon. We already know that she will play an important role during the Dance of the Dragons as Mistress of the Whisperers. However, armed with the Smoking Gun on Aegon, Mysaria grew much more powerful. The last time we saw her, she worked with Otto Hightower. But Mysaria has no particular allegiance to Otto or the Hightowers. For her, it’s a pure and simple affair. Given the nature of the information, Mysaria is more likely to go to Princess Rhaenyra and help her defeat Aegon. If so, it would be a blow to House Hightower as it would surprise Alicent.
