Marvel is no stranger to hate, especially with its Phase 4 also turning many of its fans against the studio. Many celebrities have also responded to criticism, including Oscar-winning directors Martin Scorsese and Alejandro González Iñárritu. And now actress Jennifer Aniston has joined the list.

Jennifer Aniston’s take on great cinema
Most popular for her role in Friends like Rachel Green and We are the MillersJennifer Aniston has finally made her return to television with the Apple TV+ series The morning show. In an interview with Variety, the actor weighed in on the Marvel debate:
“You see what’s available out there and it’s just dwindling and dwindling in terms of great Marvel movies…Or things that I’m not just asked to do or really interested in living in a green screen .”

Visual effects criticism overwhelming the film’s selling point is nothing new, just take a look at Disney’s Lion King redo or Avatar. Most movies use green screen backgrounds to add elements later, which could make it difficult for many actors to get into character.

Also, the argument that Marvel movies take up a large chunk of cinema is nothing new, as has been pointed out before by Martin Scorsese. Most blockbusters are superhero movies, sequels or remakes, which doesn’t leave much room for original productions to thrive.
What is the solution ?
Even though reviews of Marvel movies have been plentiful, few solutions have been offered. Previously, Mark Ruffalo offered to subsidize “another cinema” through a national arts endowment fund, but that might be a far-fetched option.
On the other hand, Jennifer Aniston noted:
“I think we should have a resurgence. Let’s put the “Conditions of Affection” back there. You know, ‘Heaven Can Wait’, ‘Young Frankenstein’, ‘Blazing Saddles’, ‘Goodbye Girl’.
