In the late 1940s, Galento began wrestling when he was around 30 years old. In 1953, as Butch Boyette, he made his Gulf Coast debut. In 1954 he made a comeback as The Masked Flash. When revealed to be Mario Galento, he continued to carry that identity for the rest of his professional life.
Additionally, Al Galento gave him the nickname, and although they worked together occasionally, their relationship was not solid. In addition to the Gulf Coast, he was a well-known figure in Texas, Tennessee, and Georgia, with sporadic appearances in Florida and the Northeast. He held the singles and tag team titles in the South.
Although he was not a shooter, his technique could be described as that of a brawler, and he was known to be rather tough. He had long hair and jewelry, which made him distinctive for his time. He was a tough-talking braggart as both babyface and heel, depending on his style of mic.
Smokey, his second wife and servant, was the most dangerous aspect of him.
