1. James Corum knew his son would be a special athlete.
James Corum acknowledged that his son Blake will one day be a special athlete. Blake was the best in his age group at baseball, basketball and football.
He later wins the Virginia Wrestling Championship. Blake, who was only five years old, seemed unique. So James once asked Blake if he wanted to be big, and Blake said yes.
James said, “If you want to be good, you can be good in your county and be in the papers. If you want to be good, you must do the following:
1. Do your job in the absence of anyone.
2. Take additional action.
3. You will have to say no when your friends want to go out with you.
James Corum started his own business
James started his own landscaping business in 1996. He usually gets up at five in the morning to assemble a team to throw rocks, cut grass, fell trees and perform hundreds other tasks.
2. Blake’s mother, Christin Corum, started working when she was 14
Christin Corum started working at a restaurant in Middleburg, Virginia when she was 14 years old. To raise Blake and her three younger sisters, both parents worked constantly.
Blake and his family decided to enroll Blake at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Maryland, where he would play field with Jarrett Patterson.
Blake followed the same routine for two years, Christin would leave the house at 4:30 a.m. to pick up Blake from school around 7 a.m.
She would then proceed to drive back. James would leave Marshall at 3 p.m. to pick up Blake from Pallotti at 5 p.m. after bringing his daughters to the bus.
3. Blake was ready for an escape year
Sports Illustrated predicted that Blake Corum would have a breakout year before the 2021 season. He gained 282 yards on 35 carries in the first two games of the 2021 campaign.
The footballer averaged 141 rushing yards per game and added five receptions for 33 yards. Additionally, he added 128 yards on kickoff returns. Averaging 221.5 yards per game, he was the national leader in all-around yards.
Corum became the first Michigan player to achieve the feat since Denard Robinson in 2011. He also became the first player to record more than 100 consecutive yards in three straight games to start the season since Mike Hart in 2007 on September 18 when he recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing play.
4. He scored four touchdowns in the first half
Blake Corum tied Michigan’s mark for the modern era with five rushing touchdowns against UConn on September 17, 2022. He became the first Michigan player since Ed Shuttlesworth in 1972 to score four first-half touchdowns.
Corum beat the University of Maryland 34-27 on September 24 while rushing for a career-high 243 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries.
Since Denard Robinson rushed for 258 yards in 2010, his 243 rushing yards were the most for a Michigan player. He ranks ninth nationally with 901 consecutive yards after games played on Oct. 22, 2022.
5. He has a high running speed
He’s not just incredibly fast; it is also very flexible. He is among the most athletic running backs in the class in that sense.
Due to its quick and precise changes of direction, its ability to move sideways with bite and force, and its aggressive, active and agile feet, it can sprint and rush to be a threat on every descent.
Corum is imaginative, quirky, creative and brilliant as a runner who chases wide open spaces. He can often deliver serious yards with power plays if he can walk the open field.
