Superman star Henry Cavill recently shared his thoughts on James Gunn’s gig at DC Studios.
During a recent interview, Henry Cavill was asked about his collaboration with James Gunn now that the filmmaker is one of two co-heads of Warner Bros.’ new DC studios. Discovery. Gunn recently signed a four-year deal to oversee DC’s film, television and animation efforts alongside Peter Safran, one of the producers behind the Aquaman and Shazam! movies.
“I haven’t met James [Gunn] Again. I can’t wait to meet him,” Cavill told IGN. “He’s clearly a very, very talented man, and I can’t wait to sit down and have long, long conversations with him. I’m very happy he’s here and very excited to any future opportunities that we can work with together.
Earlier this week, James Gunn shared a panel of comics featuring Superman to mark his first day working at DC Studios. In 2019, when Gunn made the jump from Marvel to DC, Warner Bros. offered him the opportunity to direct a new Superman movie. However, Gunn decided to go with the Suicide Squad, another DC Comics property.
Prior to his hire as co-director of DC Studios, James Gunn wrote and directed The Suicide Squad and developed its spin-off series Peacemaker for the WanerMedia HBO Max streaming service. Peacemaker has already been renewed for a second season, with filming set to begin next year, but Gunn is also working on a top-secret DC Comics movie.
James Gunn is expected to focus on the creative direction of the DC Universe while Peter Safran will handle business and production. They will report directly to the head of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, and will collaborate with co-directors from Warner Bros. Film Group, Michael DeLuca and Pam Abdy.
