Andy Serkis explained why he wasn’t directing Venom 3 after working on its predecessor let there be carnage.
Kelly Marcel is set to make her directorial debut with the third Venom film after working as a screenwriter on the first two installments of the Sony Pictures series. Marcel was a surprising choice for the position given that the first two Venom the films were helmed by more experienced directors like Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis, both expressing they would be willing to return to the series.
While doing the press rounds for her work in the Disney Plus series AndorAndy Serkis spoke to SlashFilm and revealed his reason for leaving the Venom series. During the interview, Serkis said he had a great time working on Venom: let there be carnage but his schedule is currently filled with various other projects.
“Listen, I had fun [Venom: Let There Be Carnage]. Tom Hardy is such a good friend of mine, and I felt very proud of the work, and we had so much fun doing it. To be the guardian of this franchise for a little while was awesome,” Serkis told the site. “I have so many plans that I was about to [work on], like ‘Animal Farm’ for example. We were about to go into production with that, and then we delayed the release of ‘Venom’. I really have to be on top of the ones I’ve been building for so long.
Meanwhile, Andy Serkis had nothing but good things to say about his successor Kelly Marcel. “I’m really thrilled that Kelly is doing this,” added the filmmaker. “She controls this material so much with Tom. They are a great team to work with. I can’t wait to see what they come up with. »
Venom and its follow-up Venom: let there be carnage earned $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office. In addition to the Venom movies, Kelly Marchel is also known for her work on Save Mr. Banks, Fifty shades of Grey and Cruel. Prior to that, Marcel created and was the executive producer of the Fox television series Terra Nova.
