Brie Larson’s performance in Bedroom got her top recognition as well as an Oscar in the Best Actress category. Her role as Ma rocked a whole audience of people, however, in a past interview with Variety, the actress revealed how the emotions she portrayed for the role didn’t come out of nowhere but were very personal.
Larson’s father was irrelevant at a very young age to her, leaving only her, her mother, and her sister to fend for themselves. The three had continued to live in a small apartment for years, until Brie Larson became a household name, transforming her family’s lives and making them proud.

Brie Larson was reliving her childhood from her mother’s perspective
Brie Larson’s childhood had been anything but peaceful. Her relationship as well as her entire family’s relationship with her father had been sketchy, which she only realized after a certain age. At the age of six, she offered her dream of becoming an actress, and Larson’s mother spared no more than a second to enroll her in classes that would then push her to pursue more stage roles.
A year later, she and her family, with the exception of her father, were to travel to Los Angeles for just three weeks for the Captain Marvel actress in order to be known. This trip, however, did not seem to end as his mother then found an apartment for him and his sister to live comfortably as a three.
“It was ‘Chamber.’ It was one room, the bed came out of the wall, I had two pairs of jeans, a few shirts, a few headbands and a pair of orange Converse (sneakers).
It wasn’t until later that she realized she wouldn’t be going home and that this new studio would be four walls that she would have to get used to seeing. She then went on to talk about how her mom never let them feel like life was tough, even though they had to survive on Top Ramen tacos and 99¢ Jack in the Box. For her, it was like a perfect world with her optimal family.
Her mother had masked the pain so well that when she accidentally caught her crying silently, all she could imagine was how she too had cried when her toys were taken away from her. However, she later realized what was going on and what her mother was going through.

Brie Larson implemented her mother’s feelings for the role of Ma
Brie Larson explained how her mother’s story was exactly what she needed to best fit as Ma in Bedroom. She has always had a history of being personal and familiar and when the dots connected for her it was both a time of understanding and forgiveness for her which led to her constantly apologizing with his mother during this period.
Her ability to put herself in her mother’s shoes, reliving her part of the story was what impacted the actress the most for the film. She went on to become one of Hollywood’s biggest names, including her role as Carol Danvers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
